I posted a thread a while back about whether to get our two girls a litter tray or not and I'm still not sure whether they would use it-although it would be good if they did.

They still poop and wee in the two top corners-looks like two little mountains but I'm wondering if I put a tray in the one corner wont they just go and use the other? Also going by the ones on ebay I notice they have a little lip they have to climb over so I'm not sure they would do that.

Ummmm what to do ?/

I tried a litter tray with mine in the beginning, all they did was sleep in it :)), occasional poops went in there but I can't say they chose it for toilet at all.

I would love to hear some tips on litter training if anyone has any?

I have a litter tray in my cages, I've got large corner trays (rabbit size, which comfortably accommodate 2 piggies) and also regular rectangular cat litter trays. I pop them in one end/corner of the cage and also hang my "special" hay in racks above it, in addition to putting meadow hay in the tray. Most of my gang will sit in it to eat the hay so quite a lot of mess gets deposited in the tray, and it's nice and easy to change. Sadly my gang still like to spread poos and wees around the rest of the cage, but it does help a little!:)) None of them have any trouble getting into the trays and my lots ages range from 7 weeks to 7 1/2 years!

I use a cat litter tray from Wilko's under my hay racks and also a corner litter tray which has a layer of sawdust and then hay shoved on top as my piggies like to jump in it and lie in it and eat so catches a lot more of their wee's and poops

I have litter trays under the hay and on the one side of the pen where I stick the most foody items in and it does help keep them a bit tidier than without. They still wee and poop anywhere they wish but I have found with my lot that they like to poop in their beds, most of mine are square shaped so similar to litter trays I suppose.

In the hutch they still have litter trays under hay racks and I would use them all the time to reduce the amount of mess they make as they eat, if mine were not so accomadating with my attempts to keep them clean I would have abandoned them as they do take up space.

I couldn't find a cat litter tray that wasn't too deep, so I used a melamine dinner tray from Morrisons, it was £3 in the sale rolleyes

It's great because it can't be nibbled at as it's much stronger than regular plastic & it's shallow enough for them to step into. I line it with newspaper then hang all the hay racks above it so they usually pee in there. Poops I'm afraid will be deposited everywhere & anytime, that's a piggies' privilege lol :))

Daisy in my pic is almost totally litter trained, she jumps in there & pees before she eats bless her, & I only find the odd poop from her in the rest of the cage.

I use kitten litter trays from P@H. They're ideal as they're not too deep and my girls can get in and out easily. I put their hay in the trays and they seem to do most of their pee and poo in there. Makes it loads easier for cleaning!

Thanks everyone for your suggestions.

Ive decided to buy a rabbit corner litter tray because a cat litter tray would take up too much room in their cage.

After reading someone elses post on this subject and also reading about smelly fleeces, I took the plunge last week and brought 3 litter trays for each piggy. (Lined them with newspaper and sawdust - couldnt find any of this Megazorb everyone keeps talking about!)

It is the best thing I ever did. No more smells, far EASIER to clean and much QUICKER. The boys have lots of room and absolutely love it.

Brilliant idea :)):<>

I tried this about 6 months ago and found the corner litter tray not to work.

My boys kept tipping it over as theyd partially stand on the edge and would then debate with themselves whether to have their afternoon nap in this or their hiddy hole.

The whole thing would then tipple over onto them as theyd be putting all their weight on the one side and then theyd get covered in sawdust.

However, if they could get in it without tipping it over, theyd sleep in it quite peacefully.
