We will be making our cc cage within the next couple of weeks and we have vet bed coming too.
For those that use vet bed or fleece, do you have a hay loft and litter trays? Or do you find that the pigs mostly just poo and wee in the hay loft?

Our only seem to poo and wee in their hay so you would think they would do the same in the new cage. But as they hay loft will be up the ramp, would it be better to have a small litter tray with some hay in it, in the botom section of the cage?

Any suggestions or examples of how smoe of you have yours set up would be great :)

I have a large corner litter tray (Lined with newspaper and back 2 nature litter ) with a utensil tower for the hay to go in and Roger pretty much poop's and wee's in the litter tray, I don't have a hay loft.....yet {:|

Ooooooo I get to show off my hayloft again :))!

I use puppy pads in my hay loft and it is proving very successful! :) I just roll them up, and they have the hay on top so makes cleaning easier!

I also have a hay tray to make keeping the cage clean easier

If you haven't built your c&c yet they are quite easy to put in!

I think I will have a hay loft, and then a litter tray with some newspaper and alittle bit of hay in it and see how it goes. If the hay makes too much mess downstairs I will perhaps use some other bedding instead.

Now I have to figure out how to make the ramp! We have an old carpet mat for a car which we can cut and use for grip :)

One question....how do you litter train a guinea pig?

You don't really it is more a fingers crossed game and it helps if you only feed them in the litter tray and i find putting the poops in the litter tray helps remind the girls but jive is pretty useless typical man! rolleyes

I have 3 litter trays full of hay, but a hay loft is a really good idea. One of these days I might make a second floor again but they never used it. Now they are in a 4x11 rather than 7x4 I could make the ramp less steep.

The two we had from babies have always been good, they had a litter tray and if they missed I'd sweep it up and put it in the tray, seemed to get them in the habit of going in the same place. No hope with Stripes who was 2 1/2 when we adopted him. The whole place is a toilet to him and if he can sit in it all the better! He's a messy little boy! lol
