This who use low cat litter trays for hay, do you line it with anything? Pee pads? Newspapar? Or just the hay?

Don’t use trays with my piggies but for the rabbits it’s either a layer of newspaper or a handful or megazorb - I have both so just grab whatever is closest when I’m redoing trays!

I used to use litter trays, sometimes lined with old newspaper etc, but found that the hay always ended up being flattened down and I could smell the wee. And hay still got spread around the hutch...
Now I just have big loose hay piles with extra pee pads underneath them. The hay mostly stays in a pile so the piggies can burrow and the pee pads can be changed easily.

I have one cat litter tray and several loose piles of hay around the cage. I used to line it with newspaper but one of my piggies was a paper muncher so I stopped lining it. Not sure why I still use it given that there’s hay everywhere from the loose piles but it does keep hay contained in that corner 😂

I used puppy pads, newspapers and a washable incontinence pad when I had hay trays.

I always used newspaper, but found cat litter trays too low to contain much, so used slightly higher sided trays with a dropped lip at the front.

I use pee pads in my hay tray which is really a ferret litter tray. I have a hay tray in the corner of the Penthouse Suite in Betsy Towers and a huge pile of hay in the run.

A couple of sheets of newspaper and a bit of wood-based cat litter. The cat litter keeps everything dry and the newspaper keeps the pigs amused as they love to tear it into strips!
