It was bath day today and I noticed these little blobs in the sink afterwards, they were brown/blackish. Very small. What could this be?
I thought it could be dust from hay, but I did worry about fleas. I don't have any other animals in my house, but my boyfriend has dogs and they have fleas at the moment. They don't come in my house or my garden so they'd have to get from his house, to me, to mine to the pigs. So not that likely.

Fleas like all skin parasites are species specific, so they won't stay long on a piggy, as they can't survive. Make sure that it is not just some dirt (has happened before).

It could be static lice/fur mites, which can occasionally come with the hay at this time of year. They are hair eating bugs that sit on the hair in the wider bum area. It usually looks like somebody has sprinkled a piggy with pepper at the rear end. Fur mites or static lice come typically in shades of beige/brown to black and you treat them like lice with lice'n'easy shampoo from gorgeous guineas, and not like mange mites. Also check for running lice, which are usually white to yellowish or brownish and appear all over the body.

Please make very sure that you have the absolutely the right diagnosis before home treating; if necessary see the vet!

I have this problem at the moment with my 2 ladies. I would of gone with static lice/fur mites which funnily enough is when I changed their hay! Would check first though with the links given above from Wiebke :) Its like as explained like pepper in the sink/bath but I do use gorgeous guineas lice n easy shampoo.

Luckily I bathed them with lice n easy yesterday as a precaution due to the time of year! :) Been keeping an eye out today during grooming, no little brown things that I can see.

I had two flea infestations on pigs in the past. One from giving grass and one from dandelions. Since then, I let garden pickings soak for 30 minutes in water at least, that kills the fleas.
