Gregory passed away just over a week ago and it's taken me a while to be able to write this post. He was the cuddliest guinea you ever would've met and he always wanted to just sit down and much his kale. He did the best zoomies and loved to popcorn. You may have seen me refer to him as marmite on the forum, but one day, my younger brother said "he looks like a greg" and we all laughed about it. From then on, he was greg.

We bought him from a pet store and it turns out he had worms and parasites. I woke up on the morning and fed and weighed him and he had lost a bit of weight but he was fine. We'd taken him to the vet and he said it was probably stress because of the new location and having to bond with another piggie. We went out a few hours later and when we came back, he was lay on his side, squeaking and thin as a bone. We immediately rushed him to the vet, calling for an appointment whilst driving as we wanted him seen asap. He was in clear distress and paralysed on one side and the vet him a jab for worms and parasites. He said it would work as long as he had twenty four hour super vision and was being syringe fed. We were happy to do anything for our baby greg at this point! We got back and sat with him on my lap syringe feeding at every minute we could to get some food in him. As the night went on, his body slowing began shutting down. First his mouth wouldn't close, the.pn he couldn't urinate or poo, then he couldn't wriggle or scratch until his little heart couldn't take it any more and he passed away in my arms,

rip Greg. You are forever missed and loved. You will always be the sweetest piggie I have known and I miss you so, so much. Sleep tight little man ♥️☺️

So sorry for your loss. Never gets any easier does it?
I lost 3 piggies in quick succession over Christmas - all different illnesses.
Now nursing 2 more through illness.
Keep your chin up. Xx

thank you <3

@Janice C I hope your two piggies pull through their illnesses and rip the three piggies you lost <3 I hope they're having fun over the rainbow bridge with my little greg

I'm so sorry for your loss, it's hard so glad he died in your arms. He loved you as much as you love him.
What a great piggy slave you've been.
Sleep tight little Greg, run free over the rainbow bridge.

I'm so sorry for your loss. It's so hard looking after these little creatures, and sadly despite our best efforts there are times when we can't save them. Big hugs.

thank you everyone for your kind words. They mean so much at such a tough time <3

I am so sorry you lost your gorgeous little boy. He had such a life full of love with you,

Sleep well little one

RIP Greg

I forget to mention how long we had him. Sadly, we were only able to spend 10 days with the little guy before he passed away. He obviously had worms while at pets at home as he had one floppy ear when we bought him. We were confused as we had never seen that before. The lady who sold him to us said that his floppy ear was "adorable" and "cute". We were told she was the guinea pig specialist who focused only on selling guinea pigs but she obviously had no knowledge whatsoever. We inquired about the ear to her and she said it was just how he was born. He had worms at pets at home and we were told he was a perfectly healthy and happy piggie. I will never buy a pet from a pet store EVER again. We did manage to speak to the manager and he said he would check out the "supplier" of the guinea pigs but we can never be sure.

RIP Greg

I would call into the shop and show the expert a photo of Greg just before he died. Than say why why why. It's not on. not fair. poor piggie. How many are binned before the public see them. WRONG

we did do that. We showed them his floppy ear and the note from the vet. All they did was offer us a new piggie or a refund. We took the refund as we weren't going to take another piggie from them... no chance!

Well done. I was in pets at home couple months ago and I was eves droping on a sales pitch. family were buying a hamster and the crap the girl was saying to them was bloody awfully wrong. I looked at the little frightened mite and left with a sad heart. That shop group are responsible for 80% of sales of small pets I belive. It's sad. xx. I will not buy but adopt or rescue. Well done at least you gave your Greg a small happiness sounds like he would been a great piggie if he been clear of illness.

I'm so sorry hun. Big hugs to you during this hard time.
RIP Sweet Greg ❤

I know. We were told some utter rubbish and lies. When Greg died, we had to take our other piggie for a check up because the illness is contagious. Luckily, our other piggie was fine. We asked them about bonding two males just as small talk when we were in the vets and they said "just put them together. They'll be fine. Leave them to sort it out". When really, bonding two male piggies can be stressful - especially with a piggie moarning another.

I'm so sorry hun. Big hugs to you during this hard time.
RIP Sweet Greg ❤

Thank you for your kind words <3

RIP little Greg the Rainbow world has another loved piggy who will not be suffering now. I am crying as I type this and that is why I dont read Rainbow Bridge every day as I would be permanently in tears. I love my piggy dearly. He is having an operation tomorrow and I will be a quivering wreck until he is home.

Big hugs for you xx

Thank you so much! <3
I hope your piggie is ok and I hope all goes well! Please let me know how he gets on. I have my fingers crossed for you and your piggie <3

I am sending you this update through many many tears. My beautiful, placid, companion Bertie went to the Rainbow Bridge during his operation. I am devastated and cannot bear to look at his little home, next to the sofa where I sit at night. I will miss his cute little face looking at me when he wanted attention, and he would sit with me on the sofa every night. RIP my boy. x
