Little Tom, my smallest boar, has followed Sam over the bridge. :'(

As far as I can tell, this is just a horrible coincidence, as Sam appeared to have a stroke or heart attack.

Yesterday when I gave the boys their veg at lunchtime, I noticed that Tom ate very little of his - although he'd climbed up the bars enthusuatically as usual. He's always been a picky eater, but this was much more than that. I weighed him and found he'd dropped from a kilo to 900g. I gave him a syringe feed, which he took happily, then I had to go out.

In the evening when I got back, he was much worse. Nobody else had managed to get him to take any food, either by syringe or normal eating. His breathing was noticeably laboured. He died soon afterwards.

My main concern at the moment is whether he had some infection which may be passed on to the other two. I am keeping them separate for the time being and will be watching them closely. Neither of them has lost any weight and they both ate breakfast.

Run free with Sam and Snug, little Tom. We shall all miss you, especially Jez :'(

Oh no not little Tom now as well. So sorry to hear your news. Run free little one with all your friends 0:)

Thank you so much for all the good wishes, it really means a lot.

I am just so worrried about Roo and Jez at the moment in case Tom had some infection which either/both of them may have got too.
I would like to put their cages side by side so they can keep each other company, but what if Jez has the infection and passes it on to Roo.....if it was an infection, that is. I don't really know what it was. He seemed fine in the morning and went down so quickly, but the fact that he'd lost that weight...he must have been poorly for a few days but not shown any sign.

Oh no, is this the same Tom from Tom and Jerry at RSPCA Medway? :'(

Poor little man

R.I.P. Tom, run free at the bridge. 0:)

Yes. Jez is Jerry. They fought and I had to separate them, but they lived happily side by side, enjoyed sharing a lap, and had even started to share floor time. It is so sad for Jez to lose him now that they were getting to like each other again :(

I'm so sorry to hear that, I remember seeing them at RSPCA Medway and that you took them on. Poor boys, RIP x
