Little Ones
Adult Guinea Pig
I suppose I can give him more cucumber, he’s been drinking well on his own so I haven’t felt the need but there are about 5/6 other areas in the cage like this!Must say I've not seen anything like that before - looks like calcium sludge but it is a funny colour. If it's not calcium I can't think what it is though. If you keep his water intake up so it flushes through...? Easier said than done I know.
I thought it looked like smegma too, but he sits like he’s peeing for a few seconds and this is all that’s there afterwards. There are several spots like this so I feel like if it were smegma, I’d be able to smell it because that stuff smells horrific. How strange, sorry I’ve not really seen it either, doesn’t look like the ‘normal’ calcium pee deposits I’ve seen. It looks like boar smegma (if that’s the term, having a dozy day?! grotty boar willy build up!) but definitely strange if he’s not urinating and just that. I’d definitely try and get more fluids into him to flush it out but definitely worth a call to C&R or a trip again poor chap. And poor you!
Hope someone else has some ideas, give Little a big hug from me xx
(Oh it is smegma, sorry just edited above post thinking I’d got confused about the name!I thought it looked like smegma too, but he sits like he’s peeing for a few seconds and this is all that’s there afterwards. I suppose I’ll have to see if it persists and perhaps ring c&r about sending a picture for Simon to have a look at. Little is completely fine otherwise, eating/drinking, wheeking, moving, etc, which is positive!
Oh lovely, lucky you!One of mine wiped a big dollop of smegma onto the floor time mat yesterday I could smell it from across the room, you'd know if that was smegma, thanks Brillo!
Perhaps, though I’m not sure if the fluids helped that much as it’s been 9 days since then! But that definitely seems to have been the thought process behind it.I did wonder why the first vet gave Little fluids - it all makes sense now!
It’s hard to tell when there’s two piggies in the cage but we saw Little do a proper pee yesterday in the late evening which is good, we haven’t noticed any more sludge spots either which is a good sign. I’m on the fence about contacting Simon with it, it might just be something that’s working it’s way out of the bladder. He isn’t in any pain with it, he’s eating and drinking well. Whatever it is seems to be coming out easy enough on itself too. I might see how he goes, I’m not overly concerned like I was the first day it happened as it was literally every pee he had and there were spots of it all over the cage. We might just need to monitor it!How’s gorgeous Little and his pee doing today @Little Ones? xx
Aw bless him, glad it’s all escaping and he’s a happy boy. Yes I’d definitely just keep an eye on him, you know him so well that I’m sure you’ll spot if there’s a change in his behaviour etc. Glad he’s doing well, big hugs to you and hope you are too! xxIt’s hard to tell when there’s two piggies in the cage but we saw Little do a proper pee yesterday in the late evening which is good, we haven’t noticed any more sludge spots either which is a good sign.
