We've just noticed Harry has at least 1 little white thing moving around, think it's a tick or a mite. Never noticed it before but heard some people have problems like this when using P@H hay - which we use, but we've also just bought some vetbed off ebay, could that be the cause as we've used the Hay for the last couple of months and never noticed anything before.

Anyway, if it is a tick or mite, what's the best way to get rid of them. We'll more than likely need to treat Dude as well

Sounds like Lice, you can get some good shampoo from Gorgeous Guineas especially for Lice. You would have to shampoo all your pigs

www.gorgeousguineas.com

They would have got the lice from the hay, it doesn't matter where you buy it from, its just one of those things!

So it's not a major thing, won't leave them in any discomfort? Was hoping not to have to bathe them again as they didn't really enjoy it. The problem is as well the ones we've seen are near their eyes and seen as they always have their heads in the trough with the hay in, it makes sense.

The missus has just seen one on Dude around the head area. Not too sure how we will shampoo around the eyes.

you need to treat it as soon as possible as they populate quickly. Just think of human nits, and thats the equilivent.

the lice and easy shampoo recommended will do fine and all intructions are given.

You can take them to the vet who will give them treatment so you dont have to wash them but will cost you nearly 5 times more money!

Your piggie will get used to bathing after a while!

Probs lice which aren't as bad to lift as mites. Shampoo should do the trick
Do not trust Pets at Home they are useless!!

you will also ahve to treat Dude yes. sorry missed that bit!

It was me who has had the probs with hay mites from pets at home

They looked like tiny brown specks of dust all over their fur. I used spot on from the pet shop which didnt work, i then got some stuff similar from the vets and pets at home paid and refunded me for the hay.

Wouldnt be able to guarantee they would pay for yours as well but you could ring and see.

For the examination of 1 piggie and the treatment was £82.24 (thats for 3 piggies)

Got some shampoo today in the post for GG, so they will be getting a bath tonight (which they'll love :{ ). Just noticed Harry now has a little bald patch behind his ear, could this be from scratching/biting at the lice and will it grow back?

All guineas have a bald patch behind their ears if you have a look, It aids their hearing apparently:)

mites you cannot see, they are buried under the skin, its lice.

my pigs got lice from pets at home hay too, i would never use their hay again, saying that i only use dust free hay as my piggies were allergic to the pet shops as only dust extracted.
