Hey hey! Please feel free to ignore this it’s more a talking to myself situation but I needed somewhere to talk about this, hoping some of you more qualified adults might have advice!

I’m based in Salford but - I’ve been at home in self isolation with the virus since Sunday now 8( I’m not sure why, but I managed to have some instinct to stock up but we are beginning to run out of hay and veggies and I have no idea what exactly to do now? I live in alone with no family around so it’s the worst possible time to get food in for the piggies! I’m okay, I have enough pasta to see me through but of course I’m worried for them. Nuggets are just about out and hay not far behind but since I’m stuck not sure what to do 8(

Is anywhere being able to order it through maybe a no contact situation? My accommodation is gated but I CAN let people in and out using a key fob from my window but I’m in such a panic right now haha-

Sorry! I’m sure a lot of people are in the same boat! It’s so many unknowns right now

I'm sure you can get a home delivery and in the notes part where you maybe advise a safe place your package can be left, you can state that it needs to be left without the delivery person having contact with you.

I ordered a full bale of hay on Amazon yesterday and it is being delivered tomorrow, there's also half bales and bags of all sizes, pet supplies are one of the 5 categories listed as essential that are still being delivered. Do you have a local fruit and veg shop? Some of those are still doing home deliveries, or failing that, cat grass seeds on Amazon should be classed as a pet supply and you could maybe grow them some grass to replace veggies for a time.

Perhaps you could get a courier to drop it off over the fence and you could go into the garden to collect it, that is, if you have one, I know not everyone does

Hi!

Very sorry about you being in that position!

I am moving your thread to our new Coronavirus section that is dedicated to support and enquiries for those members that are self-isolating.

Here is a link to mutual help groups around the UK; there are quite a number listed for the Greater manchester area. Somebody there may be able to help you with shopping? COVID-19 UK Mutual Aid groups: a list

Online places struggle with demand and may have delays with delivery. But it is safe to place the shopping by the door and ring the door bell.

Sorry sweet! Didnt even know there was a section for it! I’ll definitely look there :)

You may get a message saying the order has been cancelled at your request (that happened to me!) But it is an error due to the delivery not being done by Amazon unless Amazon is actually who is listing the product. Other sellers have to arrange delivery themselves now. So if you get a cancellation message don't panic ☺ fingers crossed they can deliver to you without any issues.

I have moved your thread and prefixed it; you are now in the Coronavirus Forum!
Just use this thread as your ongoing support thread for as long as your are in isolation. ;)

I am sorry that you have found yourself in this position but please try and not worry. There are some great suggestions on this thread already.

Can you pick grass for your piggies?

Grass isn’t an option sadly - the only grass here probably isn’t safe as people drink and smoke and do drugs there all the time. Definitely might try the cat grass option though just to help get something in for them :)

Hope you're not feeling too awful!
I ordered some hay and nuggets from my usual online supplier, the Hay Experts, yesterday, and it's being delivered tomorrow. They are low/out of some items, but expecting another delivery in the next few days. You could try them for dry stuff.
You could put in the instructions box to call when they get to your gates, and to then put the box by the main door so you can go and collect it.

I live in Salford and would be happy to go shopping for you and your piggies. Please message me if I can help in any way.

So sorry to hear you aren't well with the dreaded lurgy. We've had a thread on here regarding veggies already and it's not the end of the world if the piggies go without for a short emergency period as long as they have hay and hopefully some pellets. Do you get on with any of your neighbours that might not be in isolation who can help out with picking some bits up for you?

Oh gosh you are a complete gem 😭 if this amazon order doesn’t work out I will 100% message you! Of course I’ll pay back anything and get something to say thank you. That’s so kind of you thank you so much, honestly thank you!

@YvonneBlue that is so kind

@DoragonHinansho please keep checkingin this thread so we know you are okay.

how are you feeling?

not too bad! It came on so fast it was honestly mental. I went into work as normal and absolutely fine on Saturday, woke up and immediately started the coughing on Sunday with no prior warning! I felt AWFUL as my parents had come up to visit me the night before and we’d gone out into Manchester City Centre to have some dinner. Of course there was no way anyone could have known but I’ve felt so guilty ever since... Mum works within NHS and she’s come down with it as well (they’re based in Bristol) so I feel super bad. She’s part of the higher risk group so she’s now isolating for the 12 weeks.

I’m okay, sort of! For me, it started off mild and seems to be slowly getting a little worse. At first it was just a fever and coughing - now my fever has gone, but the cough is getting more continuous and it’s getting a little painful to breathe if I’m doing it deeply. But honestly as long as I’m not talking it’s all right! I’m pretty young so I’m hoping I’ll be through and done with it fairly quickly. Thanks for checking on me though, it means a whole lot!

that’s really soothing to hear they’ll be okay for a couple of days! the one neighbour who could go out is my friend Lewis but he’s sadly come down with it as well, it’s bonkers 8( we reckon we got it from university, I went into class last week and it came out someone went in despite going to one of the higher risk zones and not completed quarantine...

I really am just happy to be able to offer help. I have a bale of hay being delivered on Monday so can share some of that with you if you are danger of running out.

Thank you so much! I should be getting some hay and things from Amazon on the 21st, but if it all goes completely wrong I’ll let you know, you’ve been so kind I can’t thank you enough! Honestly I appreciate this so so much you have no idea ;-; I make little crochet and knitted things, so once I’m better and in the clear I definitely want to make something for you as a thank you! (Including a little guinea pig!)

That's what I love about this forum. It's all very friendly and people want to help others. Its a great place to hang out.
Honestly I wasn’t expecting to be offered help like this and I’m so grateful, I feel like I can’t express into words... just thank you so much everyone!

Please do do get in touch if you need anything, we are shopping every few days so can easily get stuff you need (if they have it in store). 😀

Thank you! Honestly I’m okay...it’s mainly the loneliness! The worse part about this is the guinea pigs are actually WITH Lewis.. see, we popped them in his flat while mine was having an inspection....and then the next day I was supposed to go get them and woke up with corona so... yeah... the cough is a pain but we’ll get there! Thanks for being so nice :’D

Recommendations are that you should use good hygiene and interact as little with your guinea pigs as possible and ideally have them in another room.

But loneliness can be a problem...

Go and sort out your piggy pics?

My fever is finally going down! Thank goodness. Oh, Urban Jungle in Manchester City Centre are doing home delivery right now! It’s how I’ve managed to finally get some supplies in terms of piggy care!

Mum thankfully tested negative, so it’s just me still - I’m hoping I’m through the worst! Is it bad I’m sat here waiting for Animal Crossing to release at midnight? No....? Okay - but fever is practically gone now and I’m just coughing away. Since it started on Sunday I’m hoping I’m almost through. Glands are the size of golf balls!
