I went to the vet today to see if I could Liza in for an appointment, and there was no luck, they are booked. I brought the shampoo in that I got from the store and they said that was ok. So I was giving her a bath and her skin in much worse than I thought. She has tiny red sores on her and bald patches. Is this mites and how dangerous is this to her? I am trying to find another vet and I am going to take her to the first one that has an opening.

Oh dear it does look like mites :'( rotten things >:( >:(
I've never had them on my piggies, i'll give somebody a nudge for you and see if they can help O0
Best of luck for little Lisa, sending her healing wheeks and loves :smitten: :smitten: :smitten: :smitten:

how do they get them and I probably need to get them all treated, right? They are all housed together.

Hi

I have had a lot of trouble with Mites.
Are you in the UK? I recommend Gorgeous Guineas Shampoo for Mites. Bathing is excellent. Also, Ivomec from the vets.

But I wonder if this is a more serious problem? If so, I can't really advise you, but others here will be able to. GG have a super range of products for guineas.

Good luck with this. I suspect it may be more than just the level of mites I am used to.

No, I live in the USA. I was researching guinea pigs and found this website everyone has been so helpful. I am going to try and get another picture of her, a closer up.

OK. O0 I have never experienced really bad skin problems from Mites, so I think you may need advice from others here. There are loads of very experienced people who I know will help. :)

No, I don;'t think that it is medicated, it has protein and lanolin in it.

OK well that's a general purpose shampoo, you need a medicated one this will kill off the mites, but you also need the medication that Lucinda suggested erm i think you also get Ivomec O0 Check out the guinealynx web site it's based in the US and they've got medical advice etc... and where you can purchase the products i'm sure, this will help you out love O0

Thank you, I looked at the website and it looks like mange mites. I am going to get her in the vet ASAP tomorrow. Thanks for the info, but I am worried about her baby. He is less than two weeks, he can't be housed separetly yet can he? What are the risks to Albert?

Little baby Albert

Oh he's adorable :smitten: :smitten: :smitten: :smitten: :smitten:
mmmmmm i do believe they can be separated this young but i think i'd risk it for one more night (hope i'm not wrong here, sorry if i am) only cause you don't want either of them to stress out :( :( :( :(
I'd take them both to the vets and make sure they're aware how young little Albert is :smitten: :smitten: :smitten:
Let us know how you go to love O0
Can we have more piccies of Albert i'm in love :smitten: :smitten: :smitten: that sweet little face awwwwwww :-* :-* :-*

You're doing the right thing by getting them to the vets. It probably is mites and will need to be treated with ivermectin. The baby shouldn't get treated as he's too small (but depending on how Liza is treated he will get some through her milk which probably won't do him any harm but the vet can confirm this).

Don't use the shampoo any more as it will probably just irritate her skin more.

I am worried about Liza, I have taken her to the vets and she has received a shot of ivermectin, twice so far. I think that she is losing weight, is this normal after they have babies? How long do they take to get back to their pre-baby weight? And I see that she has two red scabs where she has scrached herself, and she is shedding a little. I am not sure if this is normal after they have babies and I am panickong or this is normal. Please help, I am so worried about poor Liza, please help! This always happens on a weekend and I am dead broke as I have all ready spent $200 bringing her to the vet. Please help!
