Hi

I went to purchase megazorb from nearest equine supplier, whilst i was there, i asked about hay for small animals. Oh, we have this, its quite popular. Okay, I;ll try it. I thought might as well as i am just trying the megazorb as well...anyway, i got home, girls in playpen, all excited i burst open the packet of fresh farm hay... offered it to greedy girl maxi, mmhhh.. nothing... big bunch of fresh hay...she had a sniff and looked at me! thinking something strange here, she's off her food?:... i sniffed the hay! it was stinking of urine, absolutely disgusting with farm animal pee..what a waste of money..did the woman just cut the hay in her back yard? I wouldn;t even let the piggies pee on it..bloody farmers...i'll stick to dust free hay, it smells wonderful..didnt think i would end up a hay expert..
has anyone else experienced this.. susan

I'd take it back if i was you sounds yucky !

Although i love the cheap and home grown kind of local aspect to farm hay, it's either sink or swim most of the time, it can either be really great and soft, or proper naff and full of dangerous sticky out pointy non piggy friendly stuff !

hmmm.. maybe its where they store the hay.. I'm thinking mice and rats :s the farmers can talk about fallow fields, no animals here etc ... oh but we package in a barn.

If you do take it back and they offer exchange not refund I'd probably open the next one right there and then.

i would take it back. 'farm hay' is a very generalised description as all hay is originaly grown on farms. the quality varies hugely but the best farm hay is hay which is suitable for horses as they require a much higher standard product than can be fed to cattle or sheep. i buy hay by the bale as i use a lot, i once got a bale that turned out to be musty ininside so took it back and had it exchanged ... the suppliers were very apologetic

Unfortunately, i put it straight in the bin as i was totally disgusted, the smell was sticking to me! yucchhhh...bad bad, honestly can't explain this, it was dreadful.. it would actually cost me more to drive there. a lesson learned, stick to what you know and is recommended...

on another point, piggies are not over excited by the megazorb? i thought they would love it. I'm going to go back to fleece at next change and watch the reaction...fussy piggies..xoxo

any other piggies not like megazorb

Hi,

I went through a phase of buying a paper sack of hay from a local horse and animal feed supplier. The guineapigs loved it and it smelled very fresh.

Unfortunately, one evening I saw a little furry foe walking very casually from one room to another. It must have been in the hay when I bought it fast asleep. It couldn't have got in the house from outside as we have mice vent covers on because we had mice at another house. We had the house upside down trying to find it.

I rang and told them and apparently they are just stored open in a barn.

It took a day to catch the thing. Peanut butter did the trick in the end (sorry if I offend anyone by catching it) but no way did I want that in my guinea's cage.

Needless to say I don't buy it from there now.

Silly
