Hey all, could really use some help. My little girl Ilia has some kind of skin infection? Noticed last week that there was what looked to be athlete's foot between two of her back toes, I wasn't sure what to do but it didn't look too bad so I just gave their pen a good clean and thought I'd just keep an eye on it. The next evening it had spread to all toes and part of the sole of her foot, I made a vet's appointment for the following evening and used some kitchen roll to dab some watered-down TCP on it to maybe try and control whatever it was.
The vet didn't know what it was either. By the time I got there, Ilia's foot had gotten worse again. It was now almost the whole foot, the fur was starting to fall out and the skin had become scaley. The vet took surface skin samples and confirmed no mites or other parasites. None of my other four piggies seem effected; Ilia herself seems to be in no pain or even much discomfort, she's moving around as normal, not biting at it or anything, there is no swelling or obvious sign that something got under the skin. Her urine and poops are normal, she hasn't lost her appetite, its just her foot! The vet gave me some Aurimic to rub into the skin twice a day for two weeks, hoping that as it was an antibiotic/anti-fungal/steroid combination it would be able to cover all bases.
I've been doing this for four days now, and although I don't think the foot has gotten any worse, it doesn't look any better either. I'm just really hoping someone might be able to help me figure out what it could be? And if I should get a second vet opinion? I'm worried it could be a sign of something more serious. Below is a picture of her foot last night.

Hmmmmmm, possibly fungal? @helen105281 that would be my guess, has the vet tried anti fungal medication cream yet? Not all fungal will show up on tests I am lead to beleive.

Is the aurimic cream?

I think fungal too. Only ringworm tends to show up in tests and I don't think it looks like that. If fungal cream has not been tried that would be my next step or even enilconazole dips.

I agree, it is possibly fungal. The problem is when you start treating a skin condition before you see a vet, you make any identification so much more difficult - it is like wiping down the crime scene.

Labs will test only for ringworm, but there are lots of other forms.

The aurimic is actually eardrops for dogs and cats, but it has an anti-fungal element to it as well as antibiotic. Its like a watery cream.

Yes, I don't think that is going to work for feet it will run off too easy. I would be wanting cream or topical imaverol from the vet for this, please try the other vets possibly

Ouch! I agree it does look potentially fungal and probably needs a topical skin cream that can be rubbed into the area. Also, fungal infections can take some time to clear up even with proper treatment- it's not something that disappears overnight even with treatment.
