Log Tunnel Warning

My new babies love to leap up on top of their log tunnels when doing zoomies. Yesterday Bracken lept on one and his foot slipped down a gap where the logs are uneven. This is one of the natural willow type tunnels. He squeeked and licked his foot, I kept an eye on him and he licked it on and off for a few minutes but then returned to zoomies, luckily he was not badly hurt. I removed the tunnel and replaced it today with one of the smooth multi coloured ones from the Range. It had never crossed my mind that these tunnels could cause injury, but then I've not had such active leaping pigs before. It's a shame because I prefer the look of the natural logs and the piggy's like to strip the bark off them.
 
I use those probably like most but I like to put a some fleece cover over the top so they can sit or lay up there. That kind of thing had crossed my mind too.

I am so glad he is ok. I have never heard of a pig catching a foot in there before. But then that sounds like some super crazy zoomies.

Maybe it can go back in when they are larger and a bit less crazy? Or maybe a log tunnel in a smaller size where the gaps are smaller.

I don't think they would keep fleece on the top at the moment, they leap really fast and hard, I've never seen piggies move like this! They are fine with the coloured ones from the Range, sitting on top surveying their world and yelling at me to get a move on with food everytime I open the fridge. I bought them a plain log to chew. Spike and Peanut are going to have the rough tunnels at age 2 they are far to refined to go leaping around on things. I've given the tunnels a good scrub with pet disinfectant and a soak in the bath, they are now drying in the sun.
I am sure these tunnels are fine for the more sedate piggy it's just mad energetic young ones that would have a problem.
 
Ooh that one, thanks for the warning. I only use those for run time currently so I'll keep an eye. Mine aren't quite as athletic as yours though :)) Glad he's okay!

I've never liked those tunnels for that very reason :( Not so bad for adult piggies but I always thought little one's paws could get trapped & they could break a leg easily :(
 
I'm having a lot of why didn't I think of that moments over this. I'd not had one of these before only the smooth ones from the Range as we didn't have anywhere selling them here until recently. The tunnels actually came with these two piggies and I was happy because they had something that smelt of them from their previous home.
 
I have one too - but none have ever shown any interest in using it as anything but a tunnel fortunately!
