I'm hoping for a few opinions and some advice here please...

You may have seen from my other threads that one of my 3 girls just gave birth to 3 little'uns. The mummy pig was pg when I got her. It's early days yet but I am pretty sure that the babies consist of one boar and 2 sows (I had initially thought one may be a boar as she was so wriggly on first examination it was hard to get a good look!)

So that leaves me with 5 sows and one boar....

what to do? I ideally want to keep all 6 but obviously don't want a lonely boar on my hands....suggestions for the best resolution welcome! adopt another boar? keep separate then neuter when old enough then return to sows?....

I would keep in a cage next to them so he can see them etc and when he is old enough neuter and pop back in with them

I wouldn't even consider getting him neutered until he is at least 9 months to a year old. Guinea pigs don't always react nicely to being put under anesthetic so I would advise against it unless it is absolutely necessary. ie. for medical health reasons.
Certainly don't get it done while he is still young.

The best thing for him at the moment would be to find him an older boar for company.

Agree, go for an older laid back boar and introduce them when baby is 3-4 weeks for it to have the best chance of working.

I would get another boar, and keep them seperate from the sows.
I would be too worried to have a piggy put under unless they really needed it.

Its up to you, depends on whether you want another pig! and it depends on how his personality develops.

Sometimes young boars get on ok with older ones as they haven't hit puberty yet, but be warned around the 6 month mark. Some hit puberty but nothing much changes.

If considering neutering go to a vet with prior experience and don't have him done until over 6 months.
