I just replied to a free to a good home lone boar (because I'm a sad sod...). I obviously don't know yet if they will let me have him, but if they do how do you suggest I house him? He was born in April and has been alone since the pet shop I think. It may be a few weeks before I can get home to Gothenburg and the rescue.

He will come with his cage, which I think is a Nero 3 at least. I would not really be comfortable with him in anything but a securely closed cage because he is not neutered, But would it be an idea to keep his cage in my pigs floortime run?

Do you think he should have company all the time or is it ok a few hours a day (they would be in the same room). Or should I try to put him with Bo (It may be a stupid idea because he is used to ladies now...)?

Anyway... I don't even know if I'll get him, but a situation like this will definitely come again and it pays to have a plan.

my boys are kept seperate *** if they lived together theyd scrap, but they love playing with each other on out of cage time :)

You may want to quarantine him at first, depending on how his state is. Afterwards, he will be much better off if he's in the piggy room, so he's got constant company.

As it's a short term arrangement having him in the same room as the other piggies but in his own cage will be fine, IMO. He'll have a chance to chat to piggies for the first time and be handled by you - if he can learn to trust people that will help him too. That's a lot of changes for him already without the added stress of meeting another boar. That's assuming he's healthy of course!

I'd house next to also. See how it pans out from there.

He's been on his own for how long? Any handling?

As you know Duke was housed next to for ages and he was happy enough in himself, not ideal but 1000% better than where he was before. Now it's Dickens turn and again he's great - he doesn't mope about or anything next to them he acts normal, not like a solo guinea pig at all.

I don't think Bo would now want a boar friend after the ladies :)

OOH let us know how it pans out!

I think I am collecting 2 6 month old boars later, bet I know why they are parting with them - FIGHTS!

Thanks for the advice! I don't know anything about him really, but I have a feeling I saw him being bought.

According to the ad he was bought in April. April 9th I wrote a mail to a friend about what I decided would be my last ever pet shop visit (I've kept that promise to myself, by the way). I was there to buy emergency hay and the person in front of me bought a cage and a single piggy. I remember it because I questioned them (the petshop people) about selling a single piggy. The cage is identical (it's in the ad picture), the date works and the sex and number of piggies. It could all be a coincidence, but I feel somehow responsible for this wee boy...

Anyway, no idea if I'll even get him, but I'll keep you updated!

How exciting, a new piggy! I do hope that it works out whatever your plan turns out to be.

no... nothing... I called again around 4 and then the woman said that someone else had called but that she would keep my number if they didn't go through with it.

At least I've started my thinking about it. I will know what to do next time if wee Baloo has found another home. I'm a little sad though as it seems he will stay lonely...
