I have a 2 year old female who is now by herself after her sister died yesterday. Having had a quick read of some of the pinned posts, am I correct in thinking that introducing younger females would be the best chance of a successful bonding? I was initially thinking about adding 2 older females but understand that may not work as well due to the fact they would already be a bonded pair?

I am so sorry for the loss of your piggy, introducing babies or younger pig would probably go smother as they normally drop to the bottom of the hierarchy yes.

Have a read of these links on bonding

Please feel free to leave a memorial post for your piggy in our Rainbow Bridge section on the forum

Once again so sorry for your loss

So sorry for your loss. When Merab lost her cage mate she was only 3 so I introduced her to 2 baby girls. After a few minutes noise and some lunging by everyone they took to each other. Merab mothered the babies and they have lived happily together since,

It really depends on personality. When daisy was left on her own I introduced willow first and it was probably the smoothest bonding I had ever had. They sniffed each other once and then just acted like they had always lived together. Also when my late Jemima got older she got really stressed when I introduced younger sows and lost some weight (which she mostly regained after I separated them again). The best bet would be talking to a rescue centre who could help with bonding. If you aren't fussed about what type of piggy you end up with and allow her to choose her own friend you are much more likely to end up with a stable bond.
