I very sadly lost one of my two boars last week. Advice please about how to ease the pining and lonleyness of the surviving brother, aged 2 years.

the only way is to get a friend for him and in the meantime as a temporary thing extra cuddles but a friend as quickly as possible will help take a lookin the rescue section;)

I'm so sorry you lost one of your piggies! That must have been such a shock!

As your boar is two years old, you're probably best off with a young one for a stable relationship. Make sure that you introduce them on neutral ground and look out for signs of dangerous aggression.

There is also the guinea pig rehome website for rescues and rescue centres:

http://www.guineapigrehome.org.uk

Look up your local rescues and give them a ring, as sometimes they have more pigs than on the web. Start with the rescue that has the most "free" boars so your boy has choice of possible partners. Some rescues will do the partnering for you, so you can be sure they will get along!

Whereabouts do you live?

Yes get him a friend. Contact your local rescue. Age is not the important factor but personality. Was your boy the boss? If so you want a laid back friend for him and if he was not the boss then you want a dominant pig.

I have very successfully matched older boars together based on this. I insist that this is done at the rescue and i watch them for hours to ensure all OK before sending home.

If there is not a suitable piggie at the moment, do your rescue offer the "lone a piggie" service?

I lend a piggie and a single hutch to enable them to see, and talk to each other so there is some company until a suitable friend is found in some cases to ensure piggies health.

Where abouts are you?
