Teenage Guinea Pig
Back in August I adopted a baby piggy called Jo-Jo to add to my existing pair, Rio and Harvey. But a few months ago Rio got ovarian cysts and I ended up having to make the heart breaking decision to have her pts. Since then Harvey and Jo-Jo's bond got alot stronger and I was happy just keeping them as a pair because with them both being young i didn't see any risk of either one of them being left on their own.
Today I went in to check on them and found that my gorgeous boy Harvey had died despite not showing any signs of illness either last night or this morning, he was only 3 years old. I'm still in shock and don't know how to process this.
My biggest worry is what to do with Jo-Jo, in the short time I've had her she's lost her two friends and with her being less than a year old I obviously don't want her being on her own for the rest of her life. I don't know whether to wait and see how she does and get her another friend once we've both had time to adjust to the loss of Harvey or whether to get her a new buddy as quick as possible. She's still very skittish so I can't see her doing well on her own for long.
Then there's the issue of how many friends I should get her. I am reluctant to get just one in case this happens again but with the space I've got the most I could manage is getting another two and having another trio which always has the risk of one being left out. And part of me wants to get an older pig to bring Jo-Jo out of her shell a bit but again I'm reluctant to get one too old incase Jo-Jo ends up losing another friend and being alone again.
I have no idea what to do, I'm an emotional wreck and just want to do what's best for my last remaining piggy. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
