I bought 2 female guinea pigs from a pet shop in december, by February one had had 3 babys.

I now have 4 girls and 1 boy. The boy is 5 weeks today and I seperated him form the girls 4 days ago. The thing is he hasn't stopped squeaking, spends alot of time in his 'little house' and has now stopped eating. Its so upseting :...

I gave him a teddy the day we seperated him but its not stopped him missing the rest of his herd. The boy is for sale and so is 1 of the baby females but no one wants to buy just one.

I was really reluctant to sell them back to the store as I have no confidence in them now but am wondering whether this may be best.

Thanks for listening

Hi and welcome!

Whereabouts are you? Are you aware that there are rescues? I would certainly not sell back to the shop or to a home that you don't home check yourself!

I am very sorry to tell you that male pups need to be separated at 3 weeks old to prevent any pregnancies. There is a certain chance that some or all of your sows could be pregnant if you are unlucky.
Here are the biological dates from the best medical website for guinea pigs:

You are doing the right thing by providing him with a teddy. You can also give him rag that smells of mum and sisters to suggle into to help ease his separation.

Oh dear, another pet shop mishap :(
Please do not sell him back to the shop - who can guess his fate, it's not his fault :...
We are a rescue forum and can only hope that you find a good home for him, maybe with a lonely older boar somewhere. Please avoid free ads, he may end up as bait :0
There may be members on here who can help you find him a home so I'd advise a new thread in the rehoming section with some pictures and more details about the little one ?/
Every piggy deserves a chance :rose

The other alternative is to keep him until he is a bit bigger and have him neutered to go back in with the girls. Then you'd have a nice little herd :)
