It is with regret that I am posting this....
Last night I had to separate my boars. They have been fighting for dominance for quite a few weeks but last night it got nasty 😔
The piggie that bit my other I had to put up for adoption. He was so happy to be handled by the staff and I know he’s in good hands.
I wanted to try and keep my other little sweetheart who loves to be handled by all the family. But in less than 24 hours I can tel already he is quiet. He’s eating and drinking and coming for cuddles but he has started to hide away and just stayed still in the run. Whereas he is normally popcorning and loving life.
I want to do the best thing for him rather than myself which would be to selfishly keep him. I want to find him a home where he can thrive with others. He is so sociable.
His name is Freddie and if anyone would like to adopt this lovely boy then please get in touch. I am based in Wigan, Lancashire

Did you think about getting him another friend?

Yes of course, I really want to. But we move house tomorrow which is going to be quite stressful again for him. Also I just feel like, what if it happens again? These were my first two guinea pigs. Maybe I’m not experienced enough. But I just want them to be happy

How old is your piggie? Would it be possible to neuter him and get a female to go with him?

Possibly.... he is around 7-8 months old.
I think I’ll see how he is in a couple of days. He’s out with his toys at the moment so not completely depressed.

Do you think it is possible to add a younger boy with him?

I am not an expert, but if it was the other boy having issues not him then mabey. It's just important that your piggie has a friend. What cage do you have?

Try not to blame yourself.
You are doing a great job, and clearly putting the needs of your guinea pigs first.

The best thing to do right now is wait until you are settled in your new house, and then approach a reliable rescue who offer boar dating.
That way experienced guinea pig people can try your boy with different pigs until they find a good match.
Sometimes pairing him up with an older male would be better becasue by adding a new baby you always run the risk of them falling out when the baby becomes a teenager!
A rescue will also always be on hand to offer support and advice if you ever have problems in the future.

If you go to the Rescue Locator in the top bar of this page you can check and see what you have near by, but it can also be worth travelling to find a good rescue.

Thank you, great advice that’s exactly what I will do. I’ll spoil him in the meantime 😊

He’s indoor, in the biggest possible indoor cage I could find. I was researching a hutch for when we moved. I will have more space you see. They were outgrowing it. So I made sure I had them in the run most of the time with food and water in there. So the cage was more for quiet time. But it was the cage where they had the problems.....
I know I should have probably persevered but it was so hurrendous watching him hurt the other so much.
The other has been rehomed with a lady with loads of experience so she’s attempting to mix him again.

As for Freddie who isn’t the trouble maker, I sort of feel like he’s the one being punished :-(
If I can re-home with someone who is suitable I would be much happier than trying to find him a new friend. I have so little experience and we are out the house working all the time.

So if I can find a better home 🏡 that’s the best I can do for him

Your an amazing guinea pig mom. You know the best for your pig.

That is so sad! I am very sorry that you have to give up your piggy!): I hope it is comfort knowing that you love your guinea pig enough to do what is best for him. Best wishes to you and your furry friend!
