The Kennys

Hello

I'm new to the forum and looking for some advice, I have a male guinea pig who is 1 1/2yrs old, we recently lost his friend and would like to introduce a new friend, not female, what is the best way to go about introducing another male.

Sorry if this has been covered before, just trying to find my way around.

thanks

Kerry

Hi there and welcome to the forum :)
So sorry to hear about your little one going to the Bridge RIP :'( :'(
Usually you would try a younger boar, but you need to speak to others here with way more experience than me, i do wish you all the best :) :)
Looking forward to hearing more about your adventures and maybe some piccies :)

Hiya, welcome to the forum :)

I'm generally quite lucky with bonding, but bonding same sex pairs scare me, so i'll leave it to the experts to answer! ;D
I wish you all the best of luck though O0

First take a look at the Barmy 4 Boars website:

http://www.susieandpigs.pwp.blueyonder.co.uk/optionsmenu.htm

Last summer one of our piggy-brothers died, and in September we successfully paired up the surviving brother, Sammy, with a new friend, Rupert (hence my name, Sammyroo). Sam was 4 years old, a laid-back, gentle pig. Roo was about 1 year 9 months at the time. We introduced them very slowly - side by side in separate enclosures to start with, then we tried them on a lap. We had them out together ona lap for about an hour every evening for a week. To start with they were both quite tense and sat a little apart but by the end of the week they were relaxed and snuggling, so we moved on to introduction on neutral territory. There was a bit of mounting and rumblestrutting but nothing serious and we kept a close eye on them. Gradually we were able to reduce the level of supervision until they were together full time. They are now really close and often snuggle up together. :smitten:

Having said all that though, I adopted a pair of brothers last month and they have lived together all their lives - now 2 1/2 - but yesterday they fought and I had to separate them. :'(

Welcome to the forum :)

Sorry to hear that you lost a piggy. Big hugs

Great advice given above :) Hope to hear more soon

I am inno way experienced - been a mummy of guinea pigs for a bout 2 months but I just wanted to tell you that I got a boar at 8 weeks old.. had him about a month then relised he desperately needed a friend. He was then 3 months and I got him a baby boar. They have been living together for a month quite peacefully. The oldest is defiantely the boss and you could sense this right at the beginning.

I just think that if an on the verge of adolescence piggie can accept a young baby then I think an old fella can ;) good luck
