Hi,
I'm thinking of adopting a long-haired guinea pig. As I only have experience with Americans and Abyssinians, I wanted to know what specific care this breed needs. I know they need their hair cut, but how often and how short? Also, do they need to be brushed daily? Are they prone to overheating? Any information would be really helpful.
Thanks!

We've always just cut the hair on long haired piggies very carefully, with round ended scissors, when it starts to drag in the floor, get grubby, tangled or matted or when it's getting mucky round the bottom area!
A good cut is also good in the summer to keep them a bit cooler.
Grooming daily is a great way to keep long haired piggies neat and free from mats and tangles. It's also a lovely bonding exercise and a good chance to give your piggy a once over.
