have any of you got the scissors out now the weather's getting hot? i trimmed my swiss sow yesterday, never done it before and she sat quite well but i think my skills need improving :red she seems quite happy but she looks like a boy now! will post some pictures later, would love to see anyone else's before/after xx>>>

I need to trim Vimto, it's been a few years since we had a long haired piggle, I'd forgot how the fur grows quickly so a trim will be needed to lighten her up.

Don't worry my piggie hairdressing skills are awful too!

Looking forward to pigtures!
 
Mine have all had their summer haircut a couple of weeks ago and are much happier about it!

Make sure that you keep them bum end trimmed very short to help prevent fly strike.
 
I have a semi-long-haired piggy called Glinda. I'm awful at trimming her hair, she always looks really dodgy when I'm finished! rolleyes
 
Mrs Fuzzy had a hair cut again a week or so ago, a number 1 apparently, now she looks like a little lion. It's important that she doesn't get too hot though as she is a heart pig.
 
I usually trim mine with scissors but I'd much prefer to have a little electric shaver, I was wondering if those little ones you get on the end of mens' shavers would work, don't know if they are noisy or not...or any suggestions would be welcomed especially I normally just trim the top and sides but would really like to get around the legs on my furry flossie. cheers in advance.
 
My girls have only been trimmed once and only round their bums really. They don't like the fur around their back ends combing, so I just cut it short. I wouldn't use clippers. I think they'd be freaked out and it might snag and hurt.
 
i have 4 long haired pigs and i bath them and cut their fur while they are in the water normally. it's makes it so much easier to see where the fur meets the skin. they don't wriggle as much when they are in the water either and it also cools them down in this weather:)
i wouldn't use clippers either as i think the noise would scare them.
 
I will be giving my hairy boys a trim this afternoon, i tend to just hack it all off with scissors ... right down so it's possibly a bit longer than a short haired piggies. Thankfully my hair cutting skills have improved, but both of mine are really good boys. Romeo looks particularly cute with his crop.

This is good advice - a wet piggy is far easier to give a haircut to ;) It also pulls less and so is more enjoyable for the piggy.....

re clippers - i find my lot struggle less with the clippers than they did when i used scissors - you can also get closer to the skin without fear of cutting piggies :)
 
my latest adoptee is a LH .. first pig that will need routine clipping here!
 
Next time I bath Rosie, hopefully towards the end of this week I may see if she had enough hair to trim around her bum. Her hair isn't what I would call long but if I can keep her back end a bit cleaner by giving her a trim it may work wonders
 
Before (too long so he was standing on it and he had matts in his fur ... big green chain adoption centre ..):

After (sides trimmed so he isnt walking on them, and back very short around the messy parts and legs as he is white and they were yellow! ick):


they're in a north facing room so not feelign this heatwave :-)
 
Oh I have to trim my Billy, he gets a long bum skirt otherwise his hair is completely insane. I bribe him with grass & he sits good as gold on my knee filling his fat face while I snip ;) x
