Hi I'm after some advice for my long haired boy.
I've never had a long haired piggie so I'm just wondering what to do with his wavy locks... do I need to cut them? (I did do this today as it's been dragging on the floor) should it be cut short in the summer so he doesn't get too hot?

Thanks in advance... picture of my handsome boy and his unruly mane. The piggie in the background is his full brother with the complete opposite hair.20190823_135913.webp

We had a few long haired girls and would trim the bum fur mainly and a tiny bit on the side if it was getting wet.

I would trim the ends, especially round the bum fur to stop any matting in that area. Make sure to keep you fingers in between piggy and scissors so you can't catch him, be very careful if he is not used to grooming and perhaps get someone to help hold him.

Thank you, I have been trimming his bum area as i had noticed it had got a little bit matted, so I've been checking it all the time to be sure it doesn't happen again.

Hes not to keen on more than one person in his 'personal space' at the moment (I'm sure this will change with time/patience) so I'll just do my best on my own for now. Thanks again

I agree with keeping bum and trouser fur short. I'd also suggest grooming them regularly. I do my long haired boy daily. It prevents any serious problems and gets them used to being brushed, particularly around the bum which is usually a sensitive area!

I keep my long haired pigs bums, back end and belly trimmed short with clippers and the sides trimmed to floor length. If they hate grooming I do clip them entirely but if they don't mind then they keep their coat.
