Hi, My younger siblings have two long haired piggies. Although they are very well looked after the eldest is only 8 so they are not handled/groomed as regularly as they should. When I visit I always make sure I groom them but as you can imagine due to lack of handling they are quite scatty asnd find this very stressful. I regularly cut the hair as best as I can around their back ends so they stay as clean as poss. In the summer would I be able to clip them completely? If so can anyone advise whats best to use and how to do it? Thanks.

Hello

I've got long-haired pigs and they do take some grooming, don't they! Even if you were to clip them they would still need grooming, I would have thought the best thing to do is to keep them trimmed as you have been and to teach the eldest one to groom them thoroughly - if it's too difficult then the parents will have to help, especially in summer when it's hot and there are flies around - would be nasty if they were to get fly strike in there!

If they don't like grooming they certainly won't like being clipped with dog clippers - and I think you'll be in danger of chopping more than just hair!

Good luck, hope someone else can advise soon

Thanks. I don't know why on earth my step-mum bought long haired ones in the first place - I told her they are hard work, especially when the kids are so young. I'll try to get my sis a bit more confident with them and see if that helps. If not I'll either have to visit more often or steal them for the summer! ;D Trouble is my own 2 piggies, 2 buns and 4 hamsters might having something to say about that. Oh and of course my OH!

I chop the longhaired piggies with some old hairdressing scissors. Mine are very over sensitive about their hair ;D

one of my piggies is a long haired piggie (we call him wiggy) :smitten:. His fur grows really quickly, he hates getting his fur trimmed, the way he wheeks you would think he was in agony! ::) silly piggie :)
