Does anyone cut long haired piggies hair in heat like this? My girls hair is about 6 inches long and I'm not sure if in this heat I should cut it or not. I'm worried about what they will look like. I know it'll grow back and they could be too hot with all the hair but I don't want them looking awful. Any tips on cutting it if I do? They don't stay still very long as they don't like being apart.

This is a question I have been debating! I have a coronet, a sheltie, a peru and a texel. I have trimmed them all recently but couldn't bear to go for the full chop! I will if we get a real heatwave though.
I find a damp towel draped over part of the cage helps to keep it cool.

I've been thinking about this too as I have a few long haired piggies that must be baking in this heat
Still not made my mind up.. I think I'll end up putting yes and no in a hat and seeing what the answer is 
Holly is a peru so I'm worried about messing her hair up and it not looking all nice, long and straight but Molly is a peru/abby so her hair is wild anyway. They don't seem bothered but I'm putting them outside in a min so I'll see how they are then.

Yes. Nigel has had a decent trim for the summer.
My texels and perus and shelties all got shorn at the weekend - they don't look great but they were just sooooo hot that I couldn't leave them and I think they feel much better for it.
I scissor around their bottom and sides, then scissor down to give a layered look - I find the texels are easiest, as they just end up looking like rex! Perus I'm ok at - I pull their hair forward over their face then trim across. The shelties come off the worst and end up looking a bit ragged!

I've decided to give them the chop tomorrow. Should be fun. They haven't seemed too hot outdoors today. I think I'll do one and mum will do the other so they aren't seperated as long it might calm them down a bit.

Mine are cut as short as possible, whether they look awful or not is another matter, I think my pigs would be beautiful should they go bald but as long as they're comfortable and cool I'm happy 
In in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada we can get to 30+ oC in the summer and though its been cool so far I had already started to keep pickle shorter. I can't wait to see pictures of how your piggies look with a cut. Pickle loves getting his hair cut its funny!

I trim all my long haired bunch in this weather - Lunkas and perus all shorn off but they are much happier for it!

I don't quite shear my shelties but I do trim them. I keep their hair at or just above ground level, rather like a bob, so still got some length on it but it's not too thick and heavy.

That's like Nigel has. He is still definitely long-haired but he seems happier with a slightly shorter coat for the hot weather.
hmmm you have all got me thinking about Bandit and Basils hair it may need a trim in summer,last summer we had more than a few 40-45 degree days it was so hot
Haven't trimmed them today got traumatised enough at the vets with Cheeko and his hair. Vet said he needed hair inside his ears taken away so I thought he meant pluck them but no he meant shave all underneath the flap of his ear. Nearly had a heart attack. Vet was telling me it's only hair but it was ok for him to say he hadn't just paid £30 for him to get clipped then see all that fur be taken away. They've to stay like that so he can get ear drops in easier. He said it doesn't matter what his ears look like because he's not going to Crufts {:| Don't think I can cope seeing another of my pets losing their hair today so I will do it tomorrow. If it tuns out ok I'll post some pics. Been cool today and is supposed to be getting cooler but I doubt it will last long.
My long haired piggies get trimmed as short as short can be... with the added bonus that they will feel the benefit of long hair in the cold months.
I'm the same... long hair in the winter, and I have it chopped off in the summer!

i have been contemplating this if we had the summer people were saying we would....
i have two long hairs a father and son, Polo and Hugo....turns out Hugo decided to get mites a few months back...hair fell out...and is only just growing back now..so i guess he kinda solved the problem for me...
As for Polo...some of his fur is trimmed anyway as he has a large cist on his bottom, that occasionally splits and leaks...he has had it treated but the vet doesnt want to remove it (at its peak is was the size of a gobstopper :o )
I havnt trimmed Polo, instead i have just given him a frozen bottle (coke bottle filled with frozen water) and put his run under a tree for shade. that said he doesnt really seem to be feeling the heat!
The two who are feeling the eat are the oldest two, Capuchino and Cinnamon (my romantic love birds, Cinnamon was damaged after a bad pregnancy and cant have babies). So I did the same with them, frozen bottle and shade, they dont really have much fur so trimming isnt an option there. I also put a sheet over their runs that seems to cool them down...

I gave my long-haired piggies a hair cut and a bath several weeks ago.
My long-haired which are rough haired or curly, I just cut their hair all over. Lola, my Coronet, I am a little more stylish with though. I hate to think of them hot and sweaty but basically just like them "neat and tidy"

Need to ask, not that I will need to do it on my little ones for a while, but how do you get them to sit still while you cut it?

If you make it a point to groom them daily, they will be used to being handled. Be warned - some prefer to trampoline on your belly (like my first ever piggy when I was a teenager), but you could always get to him to sit still if he had some matting at the back end.
This is the late Porky who beleve it or not had hair about 6 inches when I got her she was a very patient pig and would let me try any style out on her lol
