Hi, My Minnie has been in a season for quite a while now (around 1-2 weeks) including mounting and lots of rumble strutting. She is 1 year and 3 months old. I have waited on it and it is still occuring. I have thought about the possibility of ovrian cysts but she has no signs of them.

Thanks in advance for any help.

Hi, have you been to the vet and have they ruled out the possibility of ovarian cysts? If the cysts are small (best to get a diagnosis early) and your piggy is a bit chubby they may not be able to feel them with an external examination... if it continues I would be tempted to ask for an ultrasound scan to make sure...

Ovarian cysts don't always have signs. I've had two previous piggies with them. The first we only found out when they got big enough to cause her discomfort and she barbered a strip of hair down her stomach. The second it was only when they reached a large size and caused a bit of urine incontinence that we found out. I find ovarian cysts can be tricky as they are so common but so many piggies lack symptoms or have differing symptoms to the "text book" ones. I would say as it's been going on so long a good knowledgeable vet having a health check would be wise

Ok, will get a vet appointment soon, would they still occur in a Guinea pig this young though?

We can only speculate. It's best to let a vet check her over and start the process of figuring out what's going on

:agr: with the other posts. I would definitely get a vet to check her over to see if there is a medical explanation for her behaviour.

While 18 months is usually the agreed youngest that cysts would be suspected, if I've learned anything over the years it's that these guinea pigs don't read text books 😅 I had one spayed at the start of September and she only presented behavioural differences like yours, her cyst was 1cm however! I have another one who is behaving similarly who needs checking when I can find a moment, I've been watching her on the off chance she was pregnant but doesn't seem it at this point so looks like I'll have another spay in the near future!
