A gorgeous pairing have arrived at the rescue today, mother (pink eyed) and daughter (dark eyed), 4.5 and 3.5 yrs old.

Mum (named Pesty, which will be changing) has long term urine scald. Urine dip analysis revealed a low grade infection, no blood thankfully.

She also has bumblefoot.

And a single overgrown nail.

So she will be on antibiotics (Septrin) to help with the infection and bumblefoot, painrelief (Metacam) to help with the bumblefoot and arthritis that is the likely reason for the urine scald (sitting where she pees as it's too painful to move), and Sudocrem to relieve her sore skin.

The daughter, Gracie is in pretty good condition compared to her mum, just a nail trim and mite treatment required.

I feel so sorry, for her, that looks so painful!

It is so good there are rescues like you who take in these poor animals, or otherwise I hate to think where they would end up. Well done to you!

I hope the pigs get better and find a lovely home soon.

Oh god how could she have got into that state.:( She must have been so neglected. That looks so painful. They are both so beautiful.

Awww I dont know how people could leave them like this, it looks so painful! I'm sure she will make a wonderful recovery along with her daughter now they are with people who truly care for them :)

what a poor little thing. how can people let them get so bad? breaks my heart :(. So glad you are there to help, Suzy! keep us updated on her progress! xx

x)x)x) Stunning piggies - i especially love their big eyes and ears drooldrool

I'm hoping mum makes a speedy recovering and when the time is right these two beauties find a 5star home....

I dread to think what would happen if it were not for rescues like you picking up the pieces - what an amazing job you do :)

Poor girl! Nothing that a bit of regular care could have avoided... mallethead

Oh my goodness - bless her little heart. I really don't know how some people sleep at night :0
Well, I'm sending them both lots of positive thoughts and healing vibes x>>
You all do such an amazing job! X

Ouch! Poor girly, glad she's in the right hands now and will be in full health before we know it i'm sure! They're a lovely pair x)

These girls were actually very loved by their family but not handled in recent months as the son had lost interest and mum was heavily pregnant. So the problems that had developed in the past months were not spotted. The family knew mummy pig had a wet bottom but just thought she was being lazy, she was not handled as they didn't like getting wee'd on.

This shows so clearly why handling your pigs is so important.

Poor wee thing, glad she's with you. Do you mind me asking how you told from that urine stick she has an infection?
My little hamphrodite piggie has been treated for a sore bum before but its constantly reocurring and seems to heal and reheal and it was thought to be fungal or just the way she is .... and I wondered how you spot infection from urine sticks. x

The leukocyte (white blood cells that combat infection) block showed a change in colour to indicate a trace of infection.

ETA - candida infection (thrush) can reoccur so it might be worth getting a culture done.

Poor girl, she's looking much better already. Does the daughter ok healthwise?

Does the urine dip read positive for ketones?

Ohhhhh poor angel, wishing mummy lots of healing vibes xxxxx

poor lady, but very beautiful both of them.

I worry that Stan will end up like this as he sits in his pee a lot, his bum is always yellow!

Big Dave does...boys eh! I just make sure he's kept dry, or as much as possible - for Big Dave, I have a piece of vet bed under his pigloo (where he spends his entire life!) and I move the pigloo around a bit for him!

Stan actually moves round a lot, but he always seems drawn to p:(ee! Also his beautiful white is always yellow :(

awww poor sweet little girls! they deserve the best! both are beautiful such beautiful pigs!

Poor little soul, she should have a speedy recovery now that she is with you and being cared for properly.
