LongHaired Piggies!?

How old are long haired piggies when their hair grows to full length? is it whilst their young or whilst they are older?

just curious. O0
 
I don't think their coats reach their full potential until they are adults.

All of my longhaired pigs have come to me as adult rescues so I can't say for sure but I remember reading that it can take up to 9 months to a year for long haired to be in full coat.
 
Thanks :D you see I have a piggie (who I have had for about a month now) and my auntie got me them as a birthday present. So i have no idea how old they are. However there not very big and weigh aroung 500g so I think there young, could be wrong.

However my piggie Gizmo, I believe is younger than Grissom as he is smaller but he has longer hair than Grissom and I was just wanting to know if it would grow any longer or weather it would just stay like it is. He has too long little pieces which are behind his ear, they are soo cute. I wil try and get a picture but I can't seem to get one which shows the length of his hair too well.
 
I have a longhaired piggy who is 8 months or so and he has had 2 major hair cuts. If I left it then I'm sure it'd be longer than mine!
 
maggs has mental hair, i cut inches off the other day and it still looks sooo long! Its more thick than anything! :smitten:
 
I'm not quite sure when it reaches its full length, because I think that long-haired piggies have hair that constantly grows. I may be wrong, but otherwise they wouldn't need more than one haircut.

doesnt people hair still grow after you die...or is that something i just heard on a scetch show?! ;D

If so then i dont see why a piggies wouldnt keep growing...maybe the growth just slows as they get older? :-\
 
People's hair doesn't keep growing because when your body decomposes (gross I know, sorry!) then you're left with your skeleton and skeletons are just bones. No hair or skin.

And apparently (i just checked it out) its a myth that many people believe but its an 'optical illusion' caused by when the body dehidrates making it look like hair and nails have grown ?

On this subject, does anyone know the best place to look for long haired? I searched all over my area and even at small pet stores but nobody seems to carry them.
 
go to a rescue! O0

We rae having some long haired babies soon but will only rehoming the boars (if there are any) and its a bit of a long wait...
 
They had long haired guineas on tv the other night, they were beautiful :smitten: :smitten: :smitten:
I wouldn't be game to have one cause of the hair trimming, i do a lousy job of mine ;D ;D

So far JoJo's had 2 cuts! ;)
 
Hair is constantly growing because it's constantly falling out, but there is a max length for it which is programmed into your genetics. Which is why you need to keep hair trim but my hair will never reach my pelvis just as my piggy will never have long hair.

Huh? We were on about longhaired piggies. Your piggy is a short hair? I don't see any resemblance?

I believe she is saying, that is why her piggie won't have long hair because it isn't in her gentic makeup.

But it will get longer if you don't cut it :-\
 
The coat of long-haired guinea pigs may grow to as much as six inches in length, draping all around. Longhaired guinea pigs hair never stops growing, the hair will reach a certain length and then stop until the root either falls out or is pulled from the follicle. Hope this makes sense and clears up what I think Jayms_fallen_angel is trying to say. ? :)
 
I understood what she was saying straightaway..if we didnt cut our hair it would not keep on growing until it reached the floor, it would stop at a certain length that is coded to each individual... :)
