Hi, I wonder if someone can give us some help with our Coco, we sadly her half sister Fudge died on Saturday night, and she's not really moved or squeaked.

We are giving her lots of cuddles and hand feeding her veggies and hay which she does take and also trying to encourage her to drink water.

As it was clean the hutch day on Sunday we decided to put her in a smaller run indoors, so we can keep a eye on her, but not sure if this is the best idea as could she be missing her home too. We were planning on bringing them both indoors now the weather is getting colder.

Coco was the quite one and I think we may need to find her a new mate, but that will take time, I'm just so worried that she will die of heartbreak.

Thank you for taking your time to read this, these were my first guinea pigs and I am finding it very hard.

Hello, I am so sorry for the loss of Fudge, it is a heartbreaking time compounded by the worry you now feel for Coco

Is Coco eating and drinking okay?

Bringing her in for now so you can keep an idea on her is a good idea. please have a read of this thread here Looking After A Bereaved Guinea Pig

Piggies do miss their friends so expect Coco to be quieter for a week or so, as long as she is eating she is at no present danger of pining away

We have a rescue locator here Guinea Pig Rescue Centre Locator for when you feel you can try and find little Coco a new friend, once again I am very sorry for your loss

Hi and welcome to the forum. Sorry to hear that it is in such sad circumstances, RIP to Fudge, it's always difficult losing a piggy whether its your first or not. Once they are part of the family the heartache is very real.

Other than being quiet how is Coco doing? Is she eating and drinking by herself? Guinea pigs do go through a complex grieving process just like humans so will be subdued for a while but on occasion a guinea pig can go into acute pining where they stop eating and drinking and this makes the search for a new friend all the more urgent. I wish you all the best in your search for a new friend for her, I know it can be tough (oddly enough no rescues near me seemed to have any single females or neutered males when I was left with Daisy on her own so it did take a while to find a friend)

So sorry for the loss of your little one. We lost little truffle back in February last year and this left her sister fudge and we were very torn to know what to do but thankfully little fudge was fine and lived on her own up until May this year when sadly we had to have her pts. They were indoor piggies. Maybe give her a few days see how she goes. Still miss mine everyday but they were 5 & 6 years old so good ages. Xx

Thank you for your help. I will have a read of the guide.

We have had cuddles today and I left some pepper and tomato in Coco's run and she has come out and eaten them. My other half has also said he has seen her come out and snuffle about and we have poop outside the hidey house so I'm taking that as a good sign.

I think I'll make a note of how much water I put in the bottle to check that she is drinking, I'm at work tomorrow so she will be on her own :td:

I've spoken to the lady we adopted them from and she has said when we are ready we can see if Coco will take to another one of her siblings, ( last time my 2 children got to choose) so I guess we were lucky that they got on so well. I've told my children that this time Coco will need to choose her mate.

Thanks once again for your kind words.
