I hadnt heard anything from her until last night when she phoned me! I am going round to her tomorrow morning to trim/bath and clip their nails. She has two sows, one longhaired who she says had matted hair round her bum with poo stuck in it :-\ and a shorthaired. I told her I would bring my GG melt and shampoo, hair scissors and nail clippers. She sounded clueless and has never cut their nails, so I will teach her how to do it :o

Well I went there this morning and the sow she was talking about is 4 months old and a peruvian, a lovely pretty girl. The fur all round her bottom was one hard mass of hair/poo etc and it was obviously very uncomfortable for the poor wee thing. I checked her over and she was otherwise healthy I use GG aloe melt all over and tried to tease out the matting a bit. I showed her how to pick her piggies up and hold them so they couldnt fall etc and educated her a bit. I explained how painful this would have been and about flystrike etc...After 20 mins I bathed her in GG posh and go shampoo, all the while talking her through the process. After drying her, I got Alice (the girl in question) to hold her whist I carefully cut all the matted fur off and I gave her a really good trim as well. I then showed her how to cut their nails
I told her to get some GG and wash the peruvians bottom once a fornight and trim to keep the hair short and manegable and also to groom her at least every other day, but if she is still nervous to phone me and I will supervise her doing it till she is confident.
This girl wasnt cruel, just not clued up! She bought them in a pet shop and they told her that the hair wouldnt grow too long. She has a very large cage for them and they were out having floor time when I got there and she obviously loves them. I told her she could always phone me with any questions. Oh yes and I checked to make sure they were both girls ;D
