Then as soon as I closed the lid Sylvester was off up the ramp!

How did you make the top layer?

I used square metal grids (c & c grids), cable tied 2 together to fit across the width of the cage, bent one and cable tied to others to create the barrier at the front. I have used lino to sit on top of the base and around the sides, cable tied to the bars of the cage to hold it in place
