Hello everyone, my name is Chocolate. I am a male guinea pig, around 4 years old and I was wondering if you could give me and my mum some help. My friend has passed away and I am looking for a new pal. I would prefer an older friend rather than a crazy youngster. I am not neutered, so I am looking for a speyed female. It's a long shot, but do you know of any rescue guineas that fit the bill?
Love Choc p.s. I am in Lancashire

Hi Chocolate, you are a very cute pig. As spayed sows are very hard to come by have you thought of getting a male friend. If your mum takes you to a rescue you can do what we call boar dating where you can meet several new friends and then pick who you get on with best. There are lots of adult boars out there looking for a new home. What is your personality like? Perhaps someone on here has the perfect friend for you.
Here's a list of guinea rescues by county.

Hi Piggyme. Mum thought that as I am entire and older then I could only be bonded with a young boar. If that isn't the case then it really broadens my horizons. I thought that due to me being a bit older then I would be best looking for an older companion, though mum is very open mimded. When meeting new friends I strut and grumble but have never caused a scuffle. I seem to be a very unlucky piggy as I have had 3 different partners, and each has left me behind and travelled to Rainbow Bridge(all after 12 months or so). I am still going strong. I have been living with an elderly special needs bunny for a while (not ideal I know, but he was on his own and we have been happy together. I know I shouldn't really be with him, and as he is about to join a big bunny bond the time has come for me to find a new guinea friend). I would say I am a pretty laid back chappie really. All talk and no action! I am happy being held, confident and quite cheeky.

It is a misconception that two adult boars will not bond. Unfortunately a very common one. I am glad you are fairly laid back Chocolate as that will increase your chances of finding a friend. There are lots of rescues on here that bond adult boars quite frequently and many are happy to rehome some distance away if it is the right home. Hope you find a friend and have a nice long time together.

The best way to find a new friend is by boar dating at a guinea pig rescue that offers this service. Age is actually less of a concern than character compatibility. If you ring around all those within your reach, you will hopefully find one or two with promising candidates.

The only rescue I know of that spays their sows (and often has a pretty long waiting list!) is GPNR Welfare in Rugby. They rehome further afield provided that you fill their requirements. Otherwise, spayed sows available for rehoming are rare than gold in Britain becaus it is a much more invasive and risky operation than neutering.

Best of luck!
