Hi everyone. We've just got two baby boys (Bowser and Toad) and I'm just looking for advice on keeping them clean. We were told that we don't need to use anything other than hay for their bedding but I've noticed when I'm doing the daily spot clean and full change that the bottom of the cage is getting soiled already (after only a week). Is there anything else I should be using like pee pads or liners? Any advice would be massively appreciated!

Welcome to the forum

Yes, You will need an absorbent layer underneath the hay.
Puppy pads (provided they aren’t going to try to eat them - some piggies do) or wood shavings are fine as a substrate to hay.
If you are keeping them indoors then a lot of people use fleece bedding (not suitable for outside piggies)

With boys there are a few key elements to keeping them happy.

Space - their enclosure needs to be 180x60cm or a 5x2 c&c cage. Anything less is too small. Boars are more territorial and having lots of space is essential to helping their bond stay harmonious.

Items in the cage. Make sure you have two of everything - you don’t want them to ever have to share. Lack of resources can play a part in fall outs.

Makes sure all hides have two exits. Any hide with only one door can mean one pig can trap the other inside which then becomes a flashpoint for potential fights.

I have added our boar guides below for further information.
