Hello,
We are looking to adopt/buy a new guinea pig to pair with our 2 year old guinea pig Disco. Unfortunately, a couple days ago our other guinea pig despite much vet intervention sadly died. We are heartbroken and now Disco has no other guinea pig companions and we don't want to leave him without any companions for too long.
Does anyone have any ideas on shelters or places we can go to get a new guinea pig in the Dudley/Tipton area and once we do get a new guinea pigs, ideas on how to bound the new guinea pig with our current guinea pig Disco, who is a 2 year old male guinea pig. Thank you.

We have a rescue locator in the top bar which will tell you your closest ones. I have adopted from RSPCA Walsall before but can also recommend Neville's nest in Leicester if you are willing to travel

Some rescue centres will do the bonding for you. If they don’t, then the guides at at the top of the banner on this site entitled guinea pig guides.

Thanks for your help and advice. When I looked at the rescue locator the only listing for the my area is the RSPCA Walsall, which Lady Kelly mentioned here. They don't appear to have any guinea pigs for rehoming at the moment, but I'll try getting in touch with them this week.
My wife is starting to lean towards getting a young guinea pig as she feels it might be more willing to accept Disco. I worry about Disco wanting to dominate a smaller and younger guinea pig. Then again, he might be afraid of another guinea pig as he's only ever been with Diva.
Once again, thanks for the help here.

Adopting a younger piggy is often the best way. He possibly will want to be dominant over a new youngster but as long as the youngster accepts that, then that is perfectly fine.

Is Disco neutered? If not and you are looking for male companions it will be a case of one rather than a pair as well as trio's of boars rarely work out especially if one or more are younger and still need to go through the teenage hormones.

If you have facebook try having a look at RSPCA Walsall on there as that is where they post most often which piggies are available. You also need to be aware that some rescues will not post about their single piggies and only "advertise" their pairs so it's worthwhile dropping them an email too, they may be able to add you to a waiting list and let you know when they have some boars in

Once again thanks for everyone's advice and help. While looking for places I came across the following guinea pig rescue and sanctuary placed called, "Coseley Guinea Pig Rescue and Sanctuary". Was wondering if anyone is familiar with them or if not, any opinion of them based on their facebook and webpages compared to other guinea pig shelter places. Barely any information on their webpage, so not much to go on, but whatever impressions you might have. Thank you.

I'm not 100% sure but I think some members might have had piggies from here. Trying to remember who. @karonus might have been one

If you get a young boar to bond with him you can get fallouts when that pig grows up, if you get an adult boar then you know they get on. Is this correct?

I wouldn’t have thought it was as straight forward as that. Character compatibility is the key and age is less relevant.
I believe that the older one is less likely to see a youngster as a threat than if an older pig is added to the mix. Whereas if you’ve got two olders both of whom are more dominant, then there is going to be a clash.

Our Story

I have indeed adopted from Reta at Coseley as has Steve. I am happy to recommend her. She knows so much about piggies, is very capable at bondings and does a sterling job. She suffered a significant injury this year so has scaled back a bit and her website is not very detailed but she’s still running the rescue despite her injury. I’d be happy to go back if I had a bereaved piggy and needed a bonding when no others were available more locally. Hope this helps.

So far we have had Nova, Aurora, Gaia and looks like Pluto from Reta. Pluto joined us last Monday after losing Gaia suddenly, Nova has been with us 3 years and Aurora has just had her first gotcha day. As Vicki said she is very knowledgeable about piggies.

If the rescue doesn’t do bonding I can highly recommend the forum bonding guides.

Hope you do find a suitable companion for Disco.
Looking forward to pictures
