Still no one has come forward so looks like it's now my mission to try and find him a home.

Here he is

Poor little guy, can you let us know where you are. Would you consider re-homing him to a rescue as they will be able to pair him up with another piggy friend and ensure a suitable home. Hopefully we can point you in the right direction once we know where you are based :)

He's lovely!

is there no way you can keep him? You look to have a nice set up there and you've had him a while now. It.s dundee where you are isn't it?

He's lovely! It may prove difficult finding a home for a lone male - most people tend to want to try proper boar dating, so that they know the boys get on before taking a new friend home. Why don't you contact a rescue? At least then, you would know that he would be properly bonded and that any new owner would have proper support should he fall out with a new companion? :)

Hi yes it's Dundee. Unfortunately no it's not possible for me to keep him. What he's in at the moment is too small for permanent housing for him but it's all I have just now. If I kept him it would mean getting a friend for him and also means I need to find space, time and money for him. With running my Gerbil rescue and having my own rescue animals to care for I can't really take in another animal.

There's a rescue which isn't too far away who will take him if needs be, but I would like to try and rehome him myself as I now feel responsible for him.

The advantage of going through a good rescue is that he can be paired up with another character compatible boar for a stable relationship much more easily and safely. If you look through Suzy's boar dating thread, you will find that it takes a her about 1-3 candidates on average to find a lasting friend for dating boars.

It is hard to let a piggy in your care go; I have been in similar situations myself, so I can fully understand your feelings!

I am not surprised that nobody has come forward; sadly the vast majority of piggies found wandering has been dumped. Piggies won't move far from their home/territory by choice - they want to stay in their familiar surroundings as much as they can.

I'm not sure if the rescue does the dating thing - it's something I'd need to ask. If I were rehoming him myself it would only be to someone with a lot of experience that is confident in introducing him to another. If that doesn't happen then I'll have to find a way to get him to rescue (I don't drive)

Are you happy to tell us the name of the rescue? AS you're in rescue yourself, I'm sure you'll understand; not all rescues are reputable, there are sadly far too many GP "rescues" that are actually breeders masquerading as rescues. Luckily, with the amount of people who use TGPF, people are aware of most of them!

i think the nearest rescues listed on guineapigrehome are joanne at hutches rescue in aylyth near perth and thistles cavies in argyll in the west. Are these reputable? They both have their own websites.

Oh yes it's Jo from Hutches. I know he would be well cared for there, I just don't know if she does the whole dating thing. She's a really nice woman and does boarding too.

There's no way I'm handing him over to the SSPCA as they would likely rehome him alone and they don't homecheck unfortunately. Also the bad attitude of one of them when I phoned up didn't help!

Hi, Joanne at hutches does do the whole package, Boar dating, sow matching etc., We have sent you a pm with our email address, If you give jo a call and arrange it with her, we can arrange to pick your boy up on Saturday in Dundee and transport him to Hutches. We are always looking for excuses to visit Hutches.

Hi thanks but I'm not sure if he'll be ready to go on Saturday, as like I said I'd prefer to try and see him in an experienced home with someone who will bond him themself to save him being moved around too much first. If no one is able then I'll contact Jo. I've already talked to her about this and she's happy to take him anytime when I'm ready
