I have my fingers crossed that Cinnamon continues to improve. Come on sweet-heart xx

Good luck it sounds like your lab works better there than here our poop sample was going to take 10 days to come back :-( way to long to wait.
I'm really glad things seam to be getting better for her let's hope she's her old self in no time at all. X

Thank you! Wow 10 days is a lot!

@irene , How is the lovely Cinnamon doing today? Recovery still progressing I hope? :tu: What were the results of the stool test?

Hi I think most said the same. Some times I notice some loose stools in the piggy's hutch they generally both seem normal and playful. I always just cut down on their veggies and with in few days it is back to normal. I would advice going to the vets if no change after a few days of cutting down veg.

Hi and thank you for asking! The vet just called no parasites in the stool so we will continue the Flagyl and if no improvement in 5 days I will have to g back. But I am at least happy that she's still eating and climbing up on the cage looking for those veggies that I can't give her lol. Stools are def more Solid than before but no pellets yet! Keeping a close eye on her

Thank you! Yes I did go as it had been more than a few days! She's holding her own on Flagyl now hoping that does the trick!

Glad to hear she's doing better :) I'm having similar issues with my Daisy at the moment so I know how stressful it is! I haven't got any advice that hasn't already been given, but I hope Cinnamon is back to normal as soon as possible :)

Thank you! Yes actually seeing pellets now just not as dry as normal she has been on the Flagyl fir 5 days now and I will be calling the vet tomorrow. I'm concerned about the length of time with no fresh veggies but she is eating fine otherwise

We'll have to admit I'm quite upset right now! Cinnamon seemed to totally recover, was making normal pellets , reintroduced veggies in small amounts then increased a bit the last 2 days and today I see a small stain on the cage pad that looks like green soft poop so very worried that the issue is returning. Will take her off veggies again but I'm worried, can guinea pigs survive with no veggies at all? She had completed the 10 day course of Flagyl :no:

Hi how is Daisy? As you can see fromy latest post I'm afraid cinnamons issue is returning. Have you had this issue with little Daisy?

So if anyone has had this experience I would greatly appreciate any advice! I have confirmed now that Cinnamon is having soft poos again but they are pellet shaped. She was perfectly well until I inteiduced veggies again! Could she just be intolerant to the all of a sudden?

Aw, poor Cinnamon! I wonder if her problem could actually be with the veggies? Daisy's problem (which has completely cleared up now thankfully!) seems to have been with contaminated veggies - the vet thinks it's quite likely the parsley we'd been growing in the garden for the girls could have been contaminated by animal urine. Since her problem has come back with the veggies I'm wondering if it may be something similar. With Daisy, she was off veg completely for about 2 days and then I started reintroducing them slowly but went very light on cucumber and have started buying parsley again instead of using it from the garden. Within about 3 days her poos were back to normal and there hasn't been an issue since, though it did take about a week for her all her weight to return (she lost about 70-80 grams).

I think it's good her poos are still pellet shaped even though they're soft. I would maybe try and just give her one type of veggie or herb to start with and see if she goes okay with that (something like coriander would probably be my choice since it's easy to digest and is so good for them). If not, try a different one by itself. If she goes okay with just on type of veg then I would probably be inclined to think she's either intolerant to something in the veggies or there is something wrong with them - Pippy didn't have an issue even though they get the exact same food so some are obviously just more sensitive to that kind of thing than others. Is she still eating hay as usual? I think that helped Daisy get better so quickly, she loves her hay and I kept topping it up so it was always as fresh as possible and she couldn't get enough of it.

Try and weigh her every day if you can, and definitely see a vet if she doesn't improve. Hope that helps, and I really hope Cinnamon gets better soon! <3

Thank you so much for the info, I had started her off with tiny bits of romaine lettuce and she was doing fine but thn I gave her some cilantro and maybe that had the negative effect. So I'll avoid that and actually take her off all again for a couple of days just feel bad cause she begs for them! And yes she is still eating hay and pellets. I will weigh her tomorrow, she's small as is only about 1 lb 11 ounces, I will also call the vet tomorrow to let her know. Thanks again! I worry so much about her she was sick when we first got her and had several URIs in a row so she hasn't had it easy and she's very docile and sweet . I am happy to hear that Daisy's issues have cleared up!

No worries! :) I know, I felt so mean denying Daisy veggies when she was begging for them! It's so hard not being able to tell them why they aren't getting any :( yep, take her off all veggies again and then if her poos go back to normal maybe just give her bits of romaine as that seems to have been fine, and just stick with that for a couple of days and then introduce different veggies individually to see if you can find the problem - could be cilantro (which I think is what we call coriander so maybe my suggestion wasn't the best haha) but I'd still re-introduce everything individually. Glad she's eating hay and pellets! I've heard it's good to offer cardboard (from a paper towel roll or toilet roll or something similar) for them to chew on since it's bland but has fibre, kind of like when humans have dry toast to settle a stomach I guess. I think it's also a good sign that Cinnamon is asking for food even if she can't have much yet. She's lucky to have an owner who cares for her so much!

Ohhh thank you so much! It's comforting to find others who love these little critters so much not nearly as much support in the U.S., I started using the empty paper rolls and she likes them! Trying to keep things moving '

Hi all, I had a very similar question to this so thought I'd post here instead of a new thread!

Just noticed one of my girls nova is having some diarrhoea, soft pellets lighter in colour than usual, some green and some smears of poop on the fleece. I hope this isnt too serious but thought id check. I had been away for the weekend and left my housemate feeding them (I had prepared veggies which had a fair amount of lettuce and cucumber which I presume caused it).

She is eating hay and dry pellets as well as loads of cardboard (thought that unusual until I saw this thread and it seems a natural response for them!) and drinking plenty. Should I withhold veggies today? Which veg is higher fibre and less water?

I will also weigh her today. Her cage mate also seems to be concerned about her, following her around and sniffing her bottom! Nova has started getting quite irritated with us haha!

Best wishes to the piggies suffering with this too!

Edit: now I've moved them back into their cage I've noticed nova making quiet squeaks apparently when trying to pass stools or perhaps just with tummy ache :/

Awww I feel for you believe me! I would also like to know which veggies might be less prone to cause this. Little Nova's symptoms sound exactly like my Cinnamons although I haven't noticed the squeaks while passing stools but she's upstairs so it's possible I just haven't been there! I so hope Nova gets well soon and will be following her progress !

Is she having proper diarrhoea (as in liquid) or just mushy pellets? If it's liquid I would be syringing her water as much as possible (although I've just read she's drinking which is really good but she may still get dehydrated if her diarrhoea is bad!) to keep her hydrated and would make an appointment at the vets for as soon as possible as you'll want to know what's going on and get her fixed up. Diarrhoea can be serious so I'd try and get her in today if possible. If it's just mushy I'd still be inclined to make an appointment but would probably just keep an eye on her at first and withhold all veggies. I do think cage mates can sense illness, but it could still just be an upset stomach that she's sensing. Daisy squeaked a little when passing stools because her stomach was sore, so that could be the case here as well, but only a vet can really know for sure.

Not sure if it means anything that her poo is green but I'd definitely be taking her off all veggies for the time being. What kind of lettuce was she eating? Iceberg is notorious for causing diarrhoea so I'd avoid that completely if you're not already. Once you start reintroducing veggies (which I wouldn't be doing for at least 24-48 hours) I would probably suggest starting with a herb like parsley as I believe they're a bit easier on the stomach and are less watery. Glad she's eating dry food! Yeah, the cardboard seemed odd to me at first but it seems to help them.

Try and make an appointment at the vets just to make sure there's no underlying problems but hopefully she'll get back to normal soon :)

Thank you! My vet is out today but did just speak with the vet technician she said to start her back on the flagyl for a few days and def avoid the cilantro which may have caused this to flare up again. She's not having diarreah just soft stools, eating and drinking otherwise but I will try the water via syringe because since she has a cage mate it is hard to tell what she is drinking. I forgot to ask the tech if I should supplement any vitamin C? Also I was giving her Romaine lettuce never use iceberg. And I agree with you that the cage mates know when one is sick! Pepper sort of annoys cinnamon a lot but when cinnamon was very sick with this and would just sleep in her igloo which pepper normally evicts her from, Pepper would just lay outside the door and let Cinnamon have it!! Thanks again it's so comforting to be able to discuss this with someone who understands!!

I think just mushy pellets and some smears, haven't seen any liquid but its difficult to tell in their cage as their bedding masks it.

Wasn't iceberg! Romaine I think and some little gem. Going to feel so mean feeding her cage mate veggies and not her!

I will get her to the vet tomorrow or weds if no improvement :)

Thanks for the help!

Awww I know I feel so bad also my Cinnamon climbs all the way to top if cage begging for veggies everytime I pass by! I covered part of the cage in pads so that it wod be easier to monitor her poos that's how I knew there was a problem because as you say harder to see in bedding. Sending good vibes to little Nova!

@McSophieChops please make your own thread if you have a Health & Illness query; it gets too confusing for the experienced members who might read back through the threads otherwise :)

Thank you so much for asking! She has been back on the flagylfor a few days due to return of soft clumpy stools once veggies were introduced. So right now I am only giving her 2 small pieces of romaine lettuce per day, so far so good. But I'm still worried that she can't seem to tolerate veggies! She is eating Her hay and pellets, I just feel bad because she loves her veggies so much and I know she misses them also concerned that she's getting adequate nutrition. How is Daisy
