Is it normal for piggies to molt in the winter?
have been brushing the girls weekly, the are both short hired but still i am getting covered

last night i notices a sort of bald spot on Phoebes back
its covered by the surrounding hair and she seemed to flinch when i touched it

its not big enough to see bare skin even when the fur is moved

they are outdoor pigs but are living in a lagged shed (piggie Palace)

any thoughts?

Does Phoebe live in a group? It's possible she's had a small tuft of hair pulled by one of the other pigs, especially if she's been mounted by any others (including females) - I have known the mounting pig to chew on and pull the hair. The skin would also be a little sensitive if this was the case.

When you say she's shedding, I would assume it is just the very top layer? It's quite normal for the surface (guard?) hairs to be loose and come away easily regardless of the time of year.

Other possibilites include mites and fungal.

my first thought was fighting as she lives with another girl
there is no sign of mites but i will keep an eye on her

cheers
