Tiffin, who Ive had for about 3 weeks now, (shes about 2 years old) seems to be losing her fur on her belly and leg.

Any idea what causes this, is it mites? I have heard they eat their fur from boredom but now that shes with me theres no way she'll ever be bored again as shes out everyday and shares a run with 5 other girls.

Please help! She also seems a lot thinner than all my other pigs.

Probably mites making her 'run down', if she's losing weight too then it could be the cause. best to get a check at the vets thouh :) Is she eating?

I agree with kel, sounds like mites, you need to get her to the vet really O0

ok thanks! I have some mite spray but I'll check with the vet just to be sure. Yes she seems to be eating fine, but better keep an eye on her weight.

It always better to be safe than sorry! But I am always in the vets or dragging them over here, i just get so paranoid about them 98) ;D

Lol I think we all get paranoid about our ikkle piggy wiggies! herehee
Yeah looks like mites, best get to the vets and if it is mites she'll have some injections :) then another set of injections 10datys later (something like that) O0 keep us updated :)

Better to be safe love, i'm sure once you've been to the vets you'll get some great advice and hopefully once you get home and do the treatment all will be fine O0 :smitten: :smitten:

Agree, from the pictures it is more then likely mites. If it is she and the others will need to be treated. Vets ASAP, like eveyone has said better safe then sorry. :)

Ok off to the vets then! I'll let you all know how it goes :)

I went to the vets 2 weeks ago (sorry forgot to update this!) and the vet said he didnt expect to see Tiffin again as he was confident it would clear up with the stuff I have given her. But now its far worse, its spread to her legs now, I'm really worried because my last piggie that had this died :'( Better get back to the vets asap.

i would, i had one pig that took 2 treatments and in the end had to have the injection for mites and she was in a bad way, lost all the fur around her eyes, legs and belly but she is ok now. what stuff did u use?

Ive had a pig with mites and she had 3 injections which seem to have worked, shes nearly grown all her fur back now.

When this happened to one of my piggies (loss of coat over both flanks) it turned out to be cystic ovaries (the biggest my vet had ever seen). One hysterectomy later and a happy, fluffy piggy emerged :)

Give Ivomec (or product containing Ivermectin) on day 1 and 10 for mites and bath as well but not on the same days as Ivermectin was given- contact Gorgeous Guineas for more advice on this [email protected]

Could also be a hormone problem, though this is usually on both sides and sounds like mites.
