hey wondered if any one could help me, i've got a couple guinea who have lost some of their coats and have some bold patches the patchs are not scabbie or anything it just skin, two of my long hair guinea who had lovely long hair around their faces and body have now gone short it looks like some one has cut them but NO one has! what could be doing this to there coats. could it be the food? as i used to feed gerty and they were find but because that went up in price i put them on wagg guinea and this is when it started?/

If I were you, I would take them to the vets as it could be fungus or mites. I don't think it's food related.

A consultaton shouldn't cost too much (ask beforehand, if it is a problem), but no treatment or treatment with ineffective, cheap over-the-counter med can kill them after much suffering. Have you got a PDSA clinic within reach?

no i dont plus my get treated with a special mite and flea treatment on regular basis which make me think its not mites

I would check whether it might be fungus or something completely different that causes it.

I'm so sorry - it must be very worrying for you!

With the hair on the face, does it look like it is nibbled short? Sounds like barbering to me, they could be nibbling each others hair.

What preventative mite and flea treatment do you give and how often?

My long-haired piggy has a very unusual haircut at the moment because the other two keep nibbleing her fur. It was all sticking up on top of her head a little while ago. She is white and the dead give away that it's the other two is the green tips to her hair style caused by grass stained teeth :))
