Lucy is off to the vet's in the morning for a scheduled checkup, but I'm panicking a bit tonight so was hoping for some reassurance....

Lucy is about 19 weeks old and had an emergency caesarean on Wednesday evening. On Thursday evening, she weighed 480g, Friday 490g and Saturday 495g. However, this evening she is just 471g.

She has been eating really well and is very active. The only change that we made in the last 24hrs was to put her back in her hutch with the other girls as she was missing them. I've observed her carefully to make sure she is not getting pushed aside at the food bowls and she is not getting any hassle at all.

I've seen her eating Excel nuggets, hay, dandelion leaves, mint leaves, carrot and she seems to really like celery at the moment (it's the first thing she goes for in the food bowl).

Can piggies vary this much in weight over the course of one day? Especially after major surgery? I have made sure to weigh her at about the same time each day and always right before giving her supper.

Is she indoors or outside? Indoors please, as she will not need to use her vital energy to keep warm that she needs to put in to healing.

30g can be due to an empty bladder, just be sure to discuss it with your vet. If she doesn't pick the weight up again look at dropping off some of her veggies so that she fills up of the balanced nutrition of her nuggets (softening a few in warm water can tempt them to eat more).

Don't worry too much. That is a normal weight fluctuation, it can be the difference between a full or empty bladder/tummy.
If she is eating and drinking as normal I wouldn't worry too much, some of my girls weight fluctuates like this all the time, as long as she doesn't continue to lose weight then it should be ok.
Good luck at the vets tomorrow!

Thank you both. :) I will get her checked at the vet's in the morning as well, but I'm very relieved to know it may just be a full bladder. I will also give a little less veggies, I think she has had a bit more today having rejoined the other girls.

Suzy, she was indoors when she came home, but just sat and looked miserable with no interest in food or anything until she saw the others. She spent Thursday afternoon until Saturday afternoon in separate housing right next to the other girls so she has been outdoors for a few days now. The weather here has been warm, even at night, I wouldn't have her outdoors if it was chilly.

Took Lucy to the vet today who was very pleased with her progress. She was not too concerned about the weight loss, but stressed that I should take her back in if she appears subdued or stops eating as well. she has another scheduled check-up on Tuesday next week and then hopefully that will be it.

She was weighed at the vet and was 470g. I weighed her again this evening and she is still 470g. Hopefully she'll start putting weight on again over the next few days, but at least she hasn't gone down any further over the last 24hrs.
