Losing Weight Steadily, Seems Drawn In On Himself

After phone to vets they had to cancel the appointment. The receptionist or another vet said the guy (I'm presuming the specialist?) who flushes out the mouth isn't there until Monday, which is when I have to ring back. Is it that intricate? Either way I really hope Ginny holds up well until then. They said they'd avoid putting him under unless they need to work on the teeth, bit nervous

How many grains is advised to feed to try and get his weight up? I don't want his body to reject anything or shut down. Also he's a bit drier, taking a long time for the Xeno to dissolve.
The zooplus order for JR Farm Grainless should be here in a day or few too
 
He's gained about 20 or so grams :) still seems a bit hunchy at times so will definitely still take along with the girls
 
My elderly sow fudge does not do well without pellets and loses a lot of weight . She drinks less when shes not eating pellets and really doesn't look great. Could be a factor but best to rule out illness x
 
After a discussion with my vet we decided to stop feeding pellets to my boar with bladder issues. He slowly lost 200g over a period of six months. He went from 1400g to 1200g. He stabilised at 1200g. The vet said it's normal to lose weight after stopping pellets.

Also, the grainless pellets can make them lose a bit of weight too, or at least not put it back on. My current two have grainless pellets and over the past few months have lost about 50g each.
 
Zooplus delivery arrived, hay tunnel and a bag or two of JR Farm Grainless. All of the, have had a nibble, hope they like it. How much is advised to feed? Ginny's really taken to them

I understand how worrying it is when they get older. The boar I mentioned above that quite severe arthritis when he got to 5.5 years old. He slowly lost more weight as his muscle mass deteriorated and he ended up at 1kg. It was a bit scary but the vet wasn't worried at all. He he remained at 1kg or round about for the rest of his life.
 
Did your boy take anything for it? x thanks, I know it's not under my control but I do get worried when I see the effects of aging on him. He's gained 50 or so grams in two or three days, was 750 day before yesterday and now 790-800 g :)
 
@CarnivalPiggy He was on Metacam to help any pain symptoms. Sometimes he had stiff legs but after he started on the Metacam he would run around again, pr jog as we called it.

He was also on Glucosamine for his bladder issues, that can help with joints too.

I'm not sure on how much to feed with JR as mine never really liked it. What does it say on the packet?
 
Thanks, hopefully they'll diagnose what's making him puff up. Poppy'smum also mentioned using metacam for a pig with arthritis, seems like it must work well.

I checked but it said put in what a pig can only in a day. Though with piggies, I'm sure that'll be the whole packet if it concerns them :))

I have a 3 different types of grainless pellets and they say for a 1kg pig:
50g
50g
At least 30g

So, I'd go for about 50g per pig
 
Wondering if I shouldn't have been so quick to doubt my vet. Ginny has gained quite a bit of weight since applying the treatment and have noticed the white spots on him has also disappeared quite a bit (which I think I wrongly assumed to be dandruff as he's rarely itched and couldn't see any symptoms). Can internal parasites cause weight loss?
 
Decided to post here to keep everything in order rather than make a new thread. Ginny, other than taking eye drops for what is probably a hay poke, seems pretty alert and eager to wheek for food, but he's losing weight. In about a week or less, he's gone from 780/60g to 740g (which went up to 750 something after his dinner, a few pieces of romaine lettuce and a scrape or two of carrot peel, a few hours ago).

Could it be because of a lack of veg? I'm being rather careful about getting him back on it as last morning I went into find Ginny looking a bit sorry for himself. He felt a bit gassy, was probably a bit hasty in giving him more veg during reintroduction. I massaged him for a minute and within a hour or few, he seemed alright in himself. When I left to go to bed he was running about. I'm just a bit unsure about his weight
