Hello everyone,
I am a young guinea pig owner and my piggy Oreo just lost 0.2 pounds, I am worried and I’m not sure why she lost weight. I did give her a lot more floor time this weekend than usual but I doubt that’s the reason. Should I be worried and how can I help her?

More floor time shouldn’t make her lose weight. I would make sure that you give/are still giving her 1/8-1/4 of commercial pellets, 1 cup of guinea pig safe veggies, and unlimited hay. Then I would keep an eye on her for any other warning signs of sickness. I would also suggest bringing her to a vet now if you can, if not now, definitely if there are in other warning signs.

Please see a vet if your piggy is losing more than 50g in a short amount of time (i.e. less than a week). Guinea pigs can go downhill very quickly.

Step in with syringe feeding fibre and water asap to keep the guts going and the piggy alive until any medication can kick in and the piggy is starting to normally again and maintain its weight.
