Hi, this is my first post. I’ve had gguinea pigs for 5 years and my oldest recently died. She was about 5 and it started with runny eyes and a gurgling sounds when breathing. She went in a round of antibiotics and the eyes cleared and she breathed a bit better but I could still hear her. But she continued losing weight at a rate of about 6g per day. She was eating well, poop normal. After two weeks, she was still eating but so skinny and becoming lethargic. I had her euthanized (vet agreed it was best) and was heartbroken.
We have two other fairly new guinea pigs that are about 5 months old. One was coughing for a few days and that has now stopped. She seems 100% healthy but when I weighed her today, she has lost 20g in the last 10 days. Any thoughts would be very appreciated. My vet doesn’t seem to have any.

Hello and welcome, so sorry you have lost your older piggie x

Weigh your other piggie regularly at the same time each day and keep a note of her weight for a week. 20gms is the difference between an empty or full bladder and their weights can vary 30gms over the day. Also keep a very keen eye on her breathing, eating and pooping x

thanks, I was so nervous about any weight loss after watching one get so skinny that I didn’t think about how little 20f is
