Please help! I had 4 female guinea pigs who was around 18 months old and a few weeks back one of them died and we couldn't see why. W of the guinea pigs right from the start had been more bigger built and heavier and it was the biggest more dominant one that died. Now one of my other guinea pigs has lost lots of weight and is starting to loose fur around her neck area, nuggets are still left in the dish the next morning after feeding. But when I feed my guinea pig by hand, fresh vegetables she is eating them fine. She seems okay I'm her self and her eyes don't seem cloudy or weepy, does anyone know what is wrong?

Hi and welcome!

Please have your piggy seen by a vet promptly. Weigh her daily at the same time (a good one is before or after their dinner) and step in with syringe feeding sooner rather than later. Up to 80% of the daily food intake should be hay; you can control that just by eye. Any partial or full loss of appetite/weight needs to be investigated, as does any hair loss. Loss of appetite is often down to pain issue.
Any weight loss of 50g/2 ounces should be seen by a vet, any loss of 100g/3 ounces is to be treated as an emergency.

Since we have got members from all over the world, we find it very helpful if you please added your country, state/province or UK county, so we can tailor our advice according to what is possible and available where you are instead of keeping it general. click on your username on the top bar, then go to personal details and scroll down to location. Thank you!

We have got a recommended UK vets locator on the top bar, but can provide a link to a list of recommended vets in some other countries.

Thankyou for your reply, I have changed my location now, I have moved my guinea pigs indoors so I can keep a closer eye on them, and popcorn (my guinea pig that has been loosing weight) is drinking fine and eating hay and the fresh vegetables but none of the guinea pigs are really touching the nuggets whereas before, the next day they would be all gone. She hasn't really lost much fur, just under her neck area the fur has become thinner, but she is interacting with my other piggies as normal and doesn't seem to be in any sort of pain or discomfort, and doesn't seem to be out of character, I'm just worried about the weight loss, I am going to weigh them all now, should I carry on feeding them fresh vegetables as they are not eating nuggets? As I know that too much fresh fruit and vegetables isn't good for their diet, thankyou
