Hi all,

I dont know how it happened but i noticed Spike was very quiet last night and whimpering in his cage. I lifted him out and noticed blood on his mouth. He has lost a tooth on the bottom, and on the same side he has lost half of the top tooth. I gave him pain relief and he slept. He is managing to eat a little bit today, and seems perky enough. Should i take him to a vet, or watch closely and just home medicate for pain. Money is a bit tight just now, but not that tight that i would deprive him of vetinary care. I am cleuless with teeth, never come across this before.

I would have him checked by a vet in case a root is loose and needs further treatment.

Otherwise, you may want to chop any veg a bit more finely. Hopefully, the teeth will grow back quickly. As he still has two, he should be able to continue to eat normally. Make sure you weight him daily to see whether his food intake is adequate.

this is familiar to me, my little man bubbles broke his bottom two teeth last week, no idea how!

Took him to the vets and she gave him painkiller and antibiotics.

Since then I've been grating his carrots and apples and finely chopping his broccoli and cucumber. I found at first I had to literally push the food into his mouth and once it was these he seemed fine to chew, it was hard slow work but he was managing to eat and thats the main thing.
one week on and he can manage small chunks of food, so no more grating, but he still striggles with large peices as he cant bite down to break bits off.

From reading around i understand their teeth grow quickly but it could take a few weeks to be back to eating normally.

I'd take Spike to the vets to be sure and then come home and get grating!

Good luck, let us know how you get on...

When I took Bubbles to the vet she also checked his cage mate too for signs of fighting but couldn't see anything obvious. She thought it more likely that he'd banged his head somehow

I took spike to the vet and he is now on antibiotics, he also had an abcess and his mouth needed cleaned up a bit. Poor soul. She doesn't know if its from fighting and thinks its poss he caught it somehow, i have to take him back if the teeth start growing funny. Thanks everyone for your advice ;)
