lost her toe nail - help

I was putting my girls away this evening and noticed blood on my hands. I looked at the first one - nothing. Then, I picked up the other one, and it looks like she has lost her toe nail. I can't see if it has been pulled out or snapped off at the very end. There was a lot of blood, but I think it has stopped bleeding now. She is away from the others at the moment in the cat carrier box with tissue under her. I have just fed her (late due to the bleeding) and she is eating. What shall I do now? I could put her with the others tonight as normal or should I keep her seperate. I'm worried she might get an infection in it. Should I take her to the vets tomorrow? and is there anything I can do for her now? she is holding her paw up sometimes, so it obviously hurts but she let me hold a tissue on it.
Obviously some major work is going to happen to the run. The weird thing is she hasn't got very long nails and I don't understand how she managed to hurt it :...
 
The main issue is to stem the bleeding, which you have already done. Routinely bathe the foot/toe in an antiseptic solution and see how she goes, she will likely be absolutely fine with just this, just keep an eye out for signs of infection. A preventative course of antibiotics are not necessary, as long as you keep the toe clean.

Loss of a nail happens quite frequently, leave well alone, nature can look after itself. Go and have a cup of tea.

oh right, Thank you. I have salt water'd it. She is so good, how do they know you are trying to help them - bless her. I'll see how she is in the morning, but it looks better already, Thank you.
 
It affects the owner more than the pig! The nail may, or may not, grow back.

It certainly does. I'll keep an eye on it and keep it clean and see how she goes. I'm the nervous wreck, not her.mallethead
 
Try not to worry, my sisters pig lost the top of her toe (and nail) and once it had been cleaned up it was perfectly fine. She seemed to forget about it overnight and it has had no effect on her well being at all.

She now has a little stump where her middle toe was but it doesn't bother her and you only ever notice it when its nail clipping time and you see she has one less to clip.

Thank you, it is her middle toe too. She was happy enough when I covered them up this evening. I think it made me feel sick more than her. I'll see her in the morning. Thank you
 
She'll be fine, don't worry. I don't think there's any need to bathe it regularly, providing that you check the toe area daily for any redness and swelling. As AP said, it may or may not grow back - sometimes, when they grow back, they're a bit knobbly and curled, but that often straightens out. Hope you're both okay now! :)

Thank you. I have kept it clean and it's fine. It is just a little stub now. We'll see if it grows back. But we are both fine now, thank you.:)
 
It may grow back thicker or a bit twisted and have a tendency to break again.

That happened to one of my sows.
