When I went down to the shed yesterday I found Ernest and Emily, my first ever guinea pigs which I got from a rescue both lying dead next to each other. I have no idea what could have happened, neither appeared ill, they had eaten nearly all of their previous feed, they had water, there were no visible signs of anything on their bodies, their bottoms were clean.

It's such a mystery for them both have dropped down together like that, they were lying snuggled up next to each other so didn't appear contorted in agony or anything (which I assume if they'd been poisoned by something they may have been). They'd only had the same as all my other piggies and the buns but only they *touch wood* as not been yet today, have been affected.

The only other thing we could think was that my husband has overfed them, he'd fed them the last time for me and wonders if he'd put too much in, but would that cause them both to suddenly die at the same time?

Has anyone got any ideas?

I'm flummoxed, fingers crossed it's nothing that could affect my other animals

I'm so so sorry to hear this :'( :'(
RIP little Emily and Ernest :-* :-* 0:) 0:)

I'm sorry i have no answers for you, perhaps one passed on to the bridge and the other one passed on because seeing this happen, i'm glad they've gone together, having lived together for all that time they now will never ever be separated :'( :'( :'( :'( :-* :-* :-* :-*

Sympathies to you and the family.

oh how sad for you to find not one but two,BUT as Glynis already said they went together and one would have pined for the other, just think of them still being together, 0:) 0:), the over feeding I dont think is the reason, I think they are not stupid and only eat whats needed, mine always have food in their bowls and only eat what they need, it could just be a freak coincidence or something more deep like being upset one went I often find when one of mine die the others tend to cuddle up to them maybe this happened and the second one gave up in a way it shows how deep bonds can be between them, I am so sorry for you, its always the one left behind who suffers, God bless Emily and Ernest, sweet dreams :'( :'(

awww no thats so sad...
RIP little ones have fun together at the bridge :'( :'(

I am so sorry. In agreement with the others that they pined for each other.

Rest in Peace

It wasn't anything that you did at all. A guinea pig will not eat unless he/she is hungry, so you can't really overfeed a guinea pig. They may pig out themselves, but that's different. I agree about the pining, RIP little ones :'(
