Hi all!

Lost my 3 year old piggie this morning, she was bonded with her sister who is timid and nervous..I don’t want her getting lonely! any advice? I would consider another female.

So sorry for your loss x Give yourself a time to grieve. Keep an eye on your remaining piggie to make sure she is eating and keeps health and then have a think about finding her a friend. There is a guide of recommended UK rescues you could have a look at. Perhaps one is near you?

Another female would be good, or a neutered male? Personality matters more than age, a rescue would help with matching. The new piggie will have been vet checked and sexed properly, far safer than a pet shop.

Good luck x

Sorry about your piggie.
Take your time to get over this and keep a eye on you're left piggie.
Their are lots help and advise to be found in here. I always read lots before I move on. Etc.

Hi!

I am very sorry for your loss!

You can find advice on what you can do for your sister in the short and longer term (including recommended rescue links to good standard rescues in several countries which mostly offer rescue dating) via this link here: Looking After A Bereaved Guinea Pig

I'm so sorry for your loss! In my experience, particularly a shy pig would benefit from another friend when you feel ready. The link about bereavement may help. Some rescues (if there are any in your area) will help you to make a good match of personalities. If this kind of pig dating isn't available, try not to worry... I had a very easy time matching up my very shy, passive piggie after her cagemate passed away. She was not at all interested in trying to move up the hierarchy, she was just happy to have another pig there and was very happy to get in line behind a baby half her size who became the new head pig!

This dating isn’t available in my area and I had thought of a baby I just need another cage. She’s been very quiet. Normally I hear them running about upstairs.

I hear you, it's not available in my area either. I have had to introduce a new friend three times now, though, and have never had a piggie who wasn't happy to have a new friend. There are tips for introductions in a sticky on the bonding/behavior page when the time comes. It's important to introduce new friends in neutral areas and to scrub down the old cage so it seems 'new' so the resident pig does not feel like she needs to defend her space from an outsider. I've actually done introductions in my bathtub with towels put down because it's a neutral space to both, there are no corners to get boxed into, and it's easy for me to supervise them there for as long as it takes for them to get comfortable with each other. I typically put a pig in each end, some food in the middle, and give them time to gradually approach and get to know each other. Definitely know that there is a lot of support and advice here when the time comes, and again, so sorry you are in this position after losing a piggie. :(

I have seen the Scottish SPCA has a 3-4 month old female so I’m contacting them to see if she’s still free. Thank you so so much for your help and advice!
