Please help! This afternoon i put my gorgeous gp out in the run as i do most days. He recently lost his pal so iv been giving him time to grieve before we got him another friend. Anyway i went out put him back in his indoor cage and he had disappeared :( iv looked everywhere. I'm absolutly gutted. Its now dark and iv looked under bushes iv put shelter and food in the garden but he usually squeaks to the sound of my voice... but nothing. Is there anything else i can do? He is 12 months old and he is a very big guinea pig. What are his chances of survival and do they return home? Thank you :, (

I am so sorry. Maybe try leaving hay or vegetables to tempt him back? I really do feel for you.

Oh gosh! I am so sorry for what you're going through. How secure is the garden? Could he have gotten out? Could someone have come in and taken him, or is it more likely he escaped the run?

Whereabouts are you, if you're in the UK it is still very cold for gps to be outside without appropriate warm shelter, hopefully if he's not gone too far he might find his way back and find the shelter you've built him x

I'm in cheshire. He could squeeze through gaps to neighboors gardens. I dont think he was stolen as there was also my rabbit out in a separate run and she was still there. Its cold and raining and I'm beside myself. Luckily i dont think he will be able to get out to the road but he could definatly get to neighbooring gardens. He always squeaks to my voice and i just cant hear him :, (. Hoping light may bring some luck but i cant sleep. Especially after just loosing my other pig. :, (

I feel so bad for you. I totally understand your despair. He may just be hiding somewhere as he does not know where he is.

Can you get into the neighbours gardens to have a look? Maybe go round rustling a bag of salad or something, if that's a sound he associates with food. Neighbours might think you're crazy but who cares!

I am so so happy for you! Thank goodness he is OK! If possible I'd still get him off to the vets in the morning, just to make sure he hasn't suffered any adverse effects from it all.

Ohhh I'm so glad you found him! Poor Dave, he must have been terrified - and poor you for the shock of finding the run empty! :(

Oh i will. Really hope he hasnt suffered. Didnt realise how much i love this pig until i thought id lost him xx

I kept looking in the run thinking i was going mad! Looking in all his tubes and huts over and over! He is staying with me now until run is pig proof! Iv been crying all night! Xx

So so so glad you've found him! I can't imagine how terrifying that is!
I just cried. I'm so used to his squeaking when he hears my voice. Just imagined a cat getting him so sat in the rain scared and cold. I havent stopped cuddling him since I found him! X

Keeping him warm close to your body is a good idea :) Have you got a snuggle safe heat pad? If so heat it & wrap it up & put it in his indoor cage with him. If not make sure he has plenty of hay to snuggle into. Please keep a close eye on him over the next few days in case he develops a URI (Upper respiratory infection). Thank goodness you found him! :)

He's such a silly pig for escaping and scaring his mum like that!

It must be a huge relief! No need too worry now, he's home safe! :) but I'd keep an eye on his health for a few days if he's been in the cold and rain!x

Thanks for the advice everyone. Heatpad is on and he is tucking into his food. He is going to the vets tomorrow for a check up. He is non the wiser to what he has put me through. At least i can sleep now! I'm extra sensitive as we lost his companion not long ago and it broke my heart. Couldnt cope if i hadnt of found our dave! Great advise from you all. Kept me sane! Xx

Vet checkup will be a good idea!
It's good too hear he is eating too! They really don't know what they put us through sometimes! Let us know how the vet check up goes!
Both you and Dave must be do happy right now!x

"Silly pig, scaring your mom. Why you ought to be asha.... Oh my goodness, look how you cute you are! How could I possibly ever be cross with that face. Aren't you an ickle piggy pig. Who's a cute piggy? You's a cute piggy!" Hahaha- that's generally what happened when Vixen went missing in the pig room one day. Little twerp! I'm glad your pig is home safe!

I'm so glad you found him. I remember when Bess made a bid of freedom. I managed to catch her just before she disappeared into the hedge. I was so upset and shaken - it too me well over 2 hours to calm down.

I have just seen This and my goodness I feel awful for what you have just been through but am so glad you found him :-) defently agree to making his run piggy proof before putting him back in! I'm so pleased you found him :-)

Hope all is well with your piggy, that would be my worst nightmare going back out to the run and not seeing piggy there, x
